Interactive Play: Your Modern/ Contemporary Faves

This is another variation on the Interactive Polls and Interactive Playlist polls, operating more like the latter.

For this poll I ask people to mention music they are into from the past several years (I'm quite flexible) that they got into over the past, say, six months (again, roughly, and I'll leave that exact time period to your discretion). The point is that it's music of modern times (contemporary) that you got into quite recently. Just do the best you can within reason. For me, I would go with music of this current decade.

Feel free to mention up to two tracks per post, and I will try to add those in a timely manner to the playlist. On second thought, please try to make it one per post like with the Interactive Playlist topics.

You can mention more later, but try to leave at least a day between posts if no one else has mentioned any others. Hopefully it won't take very long to fill up the options. Once we have 25 options then we should be ready to put them up in the poll and start voting. Note: If there are more than 25 tracks that turn up before I put up the poll, then I would want to have as many people included as possible and try to fairly evenly distribute the numbers of choices that each person puts up -- meaning that someone with, say, five, might not get all into the poll to allow someone with less or none an entry or entries in the poll despite who got in first.

There is no set time limit. I do ask that you think that your entries are not likely to be well-known here if possible. I would avoid the biggest names. Prog, non-Prog and quasi[modo]-Prog is allowed.

People who nominate music need not listen to the playlist and vote, but it is encouraged that people take a listen before voting (at least try to get a sense of all the choices. And commenting on the music is encouraged. Also, feel free to vote even if you did not suggest music. Please do not vote for your own choice or choices, and please no one vote until all the choices are up. Not sure if I will add the suggestions to the poll as we go along or just update with the numbers (the first is easier for people to follow). I then ask people to vote for "up to five" track choices (or six or seven if you are really keen).

Oh and for mentioning music I ask that you have the name of the artist, followed by the track name and the year. Then post a youtube video of it if available (otherwise bandcamp link, maybe vimeo...). Youtube works best due to the playlist. If you have problems with links, not only can I do that for you, but I can explain how its done -- if you quote a post with a video embed you should be able to see see how it's done with the tube tags and youtube code after v= . If you also can copy and paste it should be a breeze.

EDIT: I decided to add music to the suggestions as we go along as with George's. I think that gives it more interest and vibrancy. I like to see it fill up and not have to do all of that at once but instead as we go along I will enable multiple votes later on.

Really taken by this whole release (including my mini-review for an intro):  Secret Sky “Opium”  A  collaboration of two fine musicians I’ve had the pleasure of hearing for years with Loreena McKennitt, Brian Hughes (Electric & Acoustic Guitars, Oud, Cuatro, Bass, Guitar Synthesizer, Loops & Drum programming) and Caroline Lavelle (Vocals, Cello & Whistles).  The electric guitar, in particular, is immediately recognizable in Hughes’ signature style and Lavelle’s rich cello and sultry voice are a perfect pairing.  Rounding out the sound are special guests, also gleaned from McKennitt’s fold of fine accompanists on violin, drums & percussion, bass, and lyra.  As one would expect, this is an epicurean’s blend of world music, with the emphasis on Middle Eastern and Celtic, along with some jazz for complex flavour.  Using the title track here:  

A second offering, again using my mini-review for an intro:  Maud the moth + trajedesaliva “Bordando el manto Terrestre” This stunning Spanish release is at once       transcendent, and eerie. It’s a phantasmagoric trip into the life of Remedios Varo, a surrealist painter, who lived in exile in Mexico, after fleeing from war in both Spain and France. This reminds me much of the spiritual works of Hildegard of Bingen, who also touched upon feverish visions for both her visual art and her music. All of this is captured in waves of organ, miscellaneous keyboards, hushed vocals, and guitars, leaving one with a sense of the holy and haunted.  A brilliant and unsettling release.  Using the track, "Perla."   

^^ Kees: And I love that ALP... too. I realise that I likely will want to dispense with my idea of limiting votes as the suggestions have already been just way too good per my tastes and if these keep up, I'll be voting for most everything (I would not vote for my own).

^ And George, and that Teke::Teke - Hoppe is so exuberant and wonderful. Loving it too. This is the "bestest" listing of music per my tastes in a row that I can recall in these polls.

Limiting the number of votes is not just out the window, it's hit clear out of the park -- well, other than don't vote for your own because that's just not cricket.

This is sounding great. Only two tracks in. "The Sons and Daughters of Poor Eternal" is a strong opener with the organ/drone.

I love Silicium. It makes we envision a cross-country train ride through a post-apocalyptic wasteland.

The poll is still about the tracks, not the albums, but I know that some at PA do not like to listen to individual tracks and I want to give more exposure for the music. Also, I would like to hear various album here in full for my own pleasure.
