Nice to go through the suggestions put forward so far. Didn't know Wippy Bonstack, but it's a great listen, as is the challenger track. From the 2001 challenge I do know Air very well (I have the album) and like this track very much, but I'll pick Dreadnaught's Ballbuster beclause I didn't know them at all and this is another very good surprise.

I will go back in time a bit and give you some full blown neo prog from 1992, with some of the crčme de la crčme of that genre at that time. One of the last pieces where Geoff Mann exposed his brilliance to the music world:

Casino - Crying onto Baize

Sorry for the triple-post, but if people want to go ignore my challenger (AIR) and go ahead and post something else to challenge Dreadnaught, any of the others that already had a "winner", or post something new, go ahead. I had felt like I already had challenged too many as it is, and I don't like to be too strict with rules/ guidelines that I think up generally.

Having quite recently done a series of many polls that covers all of the years since 1967 with multiple albums per year, and a playlist for each poll with chosen track from each album, I do have those years in my head with songs ready to go, and I do very much like to share that which I like to those who will lend an ear, as well as to listen to what other people like.

So here's a recap of the challenges (the verifiably vanquishing and veritably valued victors in these versus, vaguely verses?, are in italics):

- 1996: Cardiacs' "Dirty Boy" vs. Rick Wakeman's "Fields of Green"
- 2019: Cellar Darling's "Insomnia" vs. Lingua Ignota's "May Failure Be Your Noose"
- 1996: After Crying's "Külvárosi éj" vs. Stereolab's "Cybele's Reverie"
- 2022: Wippy Bonstack's "Beautiful Stain" vs. Kikagaku Moyo - "Dancing Blue"

Current challenge to be decided on (to ideally be followed by a new competitor from any year, that hopefully someone else will challenge)...
2001: Dreadnaught - "Ballbuster" (on last page https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hC3dsxbfGcI) vs. Air - "Radian" (see post above)

EDIT: I made a playlist of the tracks thus far in case anyone is interested, which I plan to keep updating if this topic has legs (mostly for me to easily listen to all the music at any time). https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLXcp9fYc6K4KmCFvHbzmUU90bQaOwSYCm Thanks to all who have participated -- been appreciating everyone's music choices.

Sorry, Will, but I choose Kikagaku Moyo's "Dancing Blue". I feel a littrle bad about voting because I already knew and really like that track and happen to be very into Kikagaku Moyo now (after really falling for 2016's House in the Tall Grass especially), and the music is that much more in my wheelhouse, so really biased that way now. That said, I think that the Wippy Bonstack is an awesome track (just not so fitting of my current interests) and I hope some others comment on it in this topic (or elsewhere). Mind anyone reading, this exercise is not about best and just needs one opinion to progress, so it's not something one would take that seriously as a contest, of course.

Now I will challenge George's 2001 "nomination" with my 2001 nomination. Dreadnaught - Ballbuster will go against a major fave of mine Air - Radian.

I'll challenge Wippy Bonstack with Kikagaku Moyo.

I would vote for Stereolab as well. Both tracks are great but stereolab definitely had a Sunday morning vibe while After Crying was definitely at dusk music.

For the 1996 challenge, I vote for Stereolab.

Wippy Bonstack "Beautiful Stain". 2022.

For the 2019 challenge, I pick Cellar Darling as the winner. Stylistically, Lingua Ignota would usually be my preference, but the vocals by Anna Murphy impressed . Cool visuals in that video though not a factor in deciding the winner.

I haven't decided on the other challenge going on yet. In the meantime, will offer up from 2001:

Dreadnaught - Ballbuster

This is the eclectic prog band, spelled with "naught" not the eclectic metallish band spelled with "nought".

Correction Logan - I chose the track Insomnia by Cellar Darling, from the album The Spell! Although to be fair the whole album is brilliant, I’m just finishing listening to it again now😎

Okay, I guess I'll challenge again on 1996 after having lost the last 1996 challenge with Dirty Boy.

I challenge After Crying's "Külvárosi éj" from their wonderful album De Profundis with Stereolab's "Cybele's Reverie" from the wonderful Emperor Tomato Ketchup.

So we now have two challenges going on:

2019's Cellar Darling's "Insomnia" vs. Lingua Ignota's "May Failure Be Your Noose"

AND 1996's After Crying's "Külvárosi éj" vs. Stereolab's "Cybele's Reverie" (and also against the first winner "Fields of Green" if people want a threesome).

I was thinking that one would choose one's winner of the latest challenge before introducing a new challenge, but I guess it may be fine to go back to earlier ones and be flexible as long as we can keep track of the challenges where the victor has not been decided. It's all good, and it should find its way if it goes on even if that way is any which way and every which way. :) And of course I'm happy to see comments on any of the selections and "battles".

Results of concluded battles so far:

1996: Cardiacs' "Dirty Boy" vs Rick Wakeman's "Fields of Green":
"Dirty Boy" = LOSER
"Fields of Green" = Winner

Current Ongoing Battles (undecided):

- 2019: Cellar Darling's "Insomnia" vs. Lingua Ignota's "May Failure Be Your Noose"

- 1996: After Crying's "Külvárosi éj" vs. Stereolab's "Cybele's Reverie"

Of the original, 1996 challenge, I have to go with the Wakeman-Hammond collaboration. (Sorry, Ian). The Cardiacs song is just too monotonous for me--and I do not hear lyrics so the words/message is meaningless to me.

My challenge from 1996 releases is my favorite song from that year: After Crying's "Külvárosi éj" from their wonderful album De Profundis:

Although some would rather not have embeds, and I might change from those as they can slow down pages, I will add that. I know it can be harder to do especially when one is on one's phone (one does not need to add embeds or hyperlinks).

I'm enjoying that one myself, and have one I would like to challenge it with, and I want to give someone else a shot, but I can't resist 2019 with Lingua Ignota's Caligula album.

This is 2019's "May Failure Be Your Noose" by Kristin Hayter (aka Lingua Ignota).

Warning: not kid friendly, uses the fu** swear word, but I think it's a decent challenger despite the indecent language. ;)

OK, I’m going for one of my favourite years, 2019. A brilliant year for music for me, before the s**t hit the fan the following year.

One of my favourite albums from that year is The Spell by Cellar Darling. Fronted by the wonderful Anna Murphy (vocals, hurdy-gurdy, flute), Cellar Darling are folk prog metal. The Spell is a concept album, and I choose Insomnia, link to the fantastic video below - sorry, I don’t know how to embed!

Bring on a decent challenger🤘

No problem, I appreciate you listening. Thanks, man. Cardiacs is quite marmite and I wanted to go for something that I and certain others here love but doesn't have the broadest appeal.

If you can think of a track, Prog or not, from any year, please do mention it. If you don't want to, then someone else can come up with one.

I guess I should have specified that along with one's track, one should provide a listening link or, preferably, a youtube embed so that people who don't know the music can listen to it. I'm so used to things like the Interactive Polls and I often use embeds or now add playlists to my polls that I forgot to get into more specifics. I put so little effort into preparing this topic.

In this case, both Paul and I used youtube embeds, and if people are to state a preference then I would ask them to familiarise themselves with the music. This might well prove too much of a challenge to really get going, but I have long liked those kinds of topics which get us listening to each other's music choices rather than just going with what we already know. But I think most others don't like to discover and listen to music this way. I hadn't heard that Wakeman piece until Paul posted it.

If youtube is proving problematic for some for these:
https://alphabet-business-concern.bandcamp.com/track/dirty-boy-2

I was looking for Fields of Green on Rick Wakeman's bandcamp page but didn't find it. https://rickwakeman.bandcamp.com/music

I would like to try to make this a more inclusive topic if I can, which has a broader range of potential participation with diverse forum members.
