So, this is going to sound very random, and I'm not expecting many (if even any) replies, but I have a question I can't seem to find a good answer to on Google. First, please listen to the first minute or so of this:
Ok. So, after the first one or two bars of this song, a part is repeated 16 times, but each time it's one beat longer than the last. So, it starts out in 10/8, then 11/8, 12/8, and so on, all the way till 25/8 (you could count it in different ways, but you get my point if you've listened to the above). So the bar/time signature grows by one beat each repetition. I'm very curious if something like this has ever been done in rock/prog/jazz/whatever music before. If it wasn't clear, this is from a video game, and I'm wondering if something in this vein has ever been done outside of that realm. Again, I know this is a very random question, but it has been on my mind ever since I first heard it in-game last month, and I figured this place is as good as any to ask about time signature related stuff.

No, I know how to behave in the restaurant now, I don't tear at the meat with my hands. If I've become a man of the world somehow, that's not necessarily to say I'm a worldly man.

I think of Steve Reich, but he takes longer to get there. |

I did this in a song of my own recently ![]()
Cool example, although this is kind of the reverse equivalent of what the OP was talking about (a melody getting progressively shorter with every repetition). Another example of this happens at 4:14 in this song: |
