Hi,
It's a tough choice either way you look at it, especially for me who does not listen to specific cultures or some type of crap or other. To me it's about the music, not the nationality since the instruments are (basically) the same all around! Germany Italy France England Spain Japan Sweden Netherlands Germany gets the nod for its rock music, but also for its electronic music, which England lacked (in general), since it could never get off the top of the pop stuff in their media. The same for the USA, who is given credit for helping start and develop the synthesizer, but the commercial attitude towards music hurt the freedom of the instrument in the early days. Germany, just about, gets a lot of its attention based on TD and KS alone, although both you and I would never leave behind at least 2 or 3 other rock outfits.

Music is not just for listening ... it is for LIVING ... you got to feel it to know what's it about! Not being told!

It's strange to see Norway is currently on an equal footing with Germany, but I'll refrain from saying Das Boot is on the other foot again.

I could make that list mine (with some minor changes either +1 or -1), except for a big correction with Finland: I'd see it at least just below Sweden. Spain would also make a big leap forward (above Japan) By the way, I'd replace the forerunner with the UK name. . Edited by Sean Trane - October 17 2022 at 06:32 |

I think, it can point at much appreciating of modern Prog, and not only the one from the 70's.

It's not nearly as surprising as Indonesia being above Switzerland in the poll.

Each to his own and all that, but how have you got Sweden in division two? The third largest music producing country in the world, with the most bands generally and prog bands specifically per capita. That's akin to putting Germany in a second division of car manufacturing countries. |
