No, this is not Yes, but it does feature an early appearance by Rick Wakeman. Look out for the paint roller.  Smile

I still find it hard to believe that Top of the Pops DJ Steve Wright didn't know the difference between YES and the Strawbs, where the only common denominator is Rick Wakeman. Tongue

He was the worst of the BBC Radio 1 DJ's though. There were quite a few in the seventies that were well up on their prog rock but he definitely wasn't one of them! (BTW the first time I heard ELP was when 'The Hairy Cornflake' Dave Lee Travis played Hoedown. That changed my life Wink )

^^ I like Steve Wright - despite him not knowing the difference between Yes and the Strawbs - and I still listen to him occasionally on his BBC Radio 2 afternoon show.

I used to listen to The Hairy Cornflake too, until he famously resigned live on air.

I can tell that I've been very fond of Rick Wakeman since my teenage years, and today I'm particularly glad of
1973: The Six Wives of Henry VIII
1976: No Earthly Connection  and
1975: The Myths and Legends of King Arthur....

- and it's very impressive discography, you've made here, Paul.
quality over quantity, and all kind of PopcoRn almost beyond

Thanks David. Compiling and listening to Rick Wakeman's impressive discography kept me busy for the first three weeks of this year, but it was great fun - apart from having to listen to Rick's bizarre collaboration with Norman Wisdom, obviously.  Tongue

Rick Wakeman's Live Chronology

5 stars 1974: Rick Wakeman - Journey to the Centre of the Earth - https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLoIDt_C5y1LtEQI0AHVt-bA8kiI7PzDD2

Having catalogued Rick Wakeman's entire staggering discography of 107 albums, Logan's recent "Favourite Concerts" thread has inspired me to search out some of Rick's classic concerts from yesteryear, starting with the epic Journey to the Centre of the Earth concert with the English Rock Ensemble, recorded at the magnificent Royal Festival Hall, London, back in 1974, and if you think that was a lavishly-expensive, over-the-top production, then you haven't seen King Arthur on Ice! Tongue

Rick Wakeman - Access All Areas: Live in Nottingham 1990

There's no existing footage of the original Journey to the Centre of the Earth concert, other than a very poor quality recording from Toronto in 1974.

Rick Wakeman's Live Chronology

5 stars 1975: Rick Wakeman - Live at the Empire Pool, Wembley: King Arthur on Ice - https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLoIDt_C5y1LvKmTio-XAjWqR5mj5iGwID

Here it is! Arguably, one of the most lavish, excessive and expensive concert performances ever staged in the history of Progressive Rock: KING ARTHUR ON ICE - Live at the Empire Pool, Wembley in 1975, featuring an impressive all-star cast of 130 players, including The English Rock Ensemble, The New World Symphony Orchestra, The English Chamber Choir and The Nottingham Festival Singers. That's quite a line-up! This is the famous (or notorious) concert that takes Progressive Rock to new levels of pomposity, grandiosity and magnificent excess which almost ruined Rick Wakeman's health and career, not to mention his bank balance. Stern Smile

Rick Wakeman's Live Chronology

4 stars 1976: Rick Wakeman - Live at the Maltings, Farnham - https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLoIDt_C5y1LvcL_8Yny_oJ-CcJn7BMhMe

Rick Wakeman and the English Rock Ensemble - Live at The Maltings in Farnham (1976) - home of the Rock Choir, who are in the Guinness Book of World Records for being the largest musical act ever to release an album (currently with 25,000+ members) which is double the number of players (and audience!) at Rick's extravagant King Arthur on Ice production. Shocked

Introduced by Whispering Bob Harris for the Old Grey Whistle Test.....

Rick Wakeman & the English Rock Ensemble: England's finest export to Sweden in this Swedish Television Special from 1980, celebrating the 300-year jubilee of the Swedish city of Karlskrona, wherever that is. Confused

Rick Wakeman's Live Chronology

4 stars1983: Rick Wakeman - Night Music: Live at Pebble Mill Studios, Birmingham -  https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLoIDt_C5y1Lush*tlPxK7Fa3SjduStGr2

Rick's Perspective:-

"Back in the early 80s, a wonderful TV series called A Little Night Music, filmed in Birmingham had quite an assortment of musical styles over the weeks that the series ran.
The performance was recorded live at Pebble Mill in Birmingham and a small budget was given to me to do some orchestrations for the additional orchestral musicians that were booked to perform with me. A children’s choir was also brought in for Bedtime Stories, but they were perhaps a little too young and brings to mind the well known saying “Never work with children or animals”! Whilst they were very angelic and looked great, trying to get them to sing at the same time proved virtually impossible, but the piece certainly ended up with a lot of charm."

During the Hammersmith concert, there was a power failure, so Rick walked to the front of the stage and told jokes for 45 minutes - even though the power cut only lasted 3 minutes. LOL

Rick Wakeman's Live Chronology

4 stars 1988: Rick Wakeman - The Word and the Gospels - https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLoIDt_C5y1LvRntLkqT7ztMe2PpWQ36hP

Holy Moses! An all-star cast get together in this television spectacular from the Holy land of Israel, celebrating the life of Christ, and featuring tenor Ramon Remedios (proving that a tenor is worth far more than two fivers) and also featuring the man who once played the part of Jesus Christ himself - Mr. Robert Powell. You don't have to be of a religious persuasion to enjoy this heaven-sent concert, but it certainly helps if you are. Smile

Live from the Central TV Studios in my home city of Nottingham, England. This is just one of a whole series of Access All Areas concerts filmed in Nottingham between 1989 and 1991 (and now available on YouTube), featuring some of the biggest names in the world of Progressive Rock! Thumbs Up
