As a serious answer, I can say I abhor djent, which infested and contaminated prog metal. I like intelligently odd time signatures, not moronic djenty garbage.

Until I first went online in 2010, I had no idea you could listen to music on the Internet, mainly because I still thought You Tube was the name of a TV show.   Embarrassed

Not surprisingly, I'm no fan of Dream Theater's Systematic Chaos album either, although I'll resist the temptation to give it a thumbs down. Smile

How does anyone not know about the internet in 2010? Confused
I must have led a sheltered life. Tongue

In my defence though, there were no full albums on YouTube in 2010 -  videos were still limited to 15 minutes duration back then.

I still find that hard to believe. It's still 2010, not the 90s or early 2000s.
It's not that hard to believe. Don't forget, there was no YouTube before 2005. Smile

^ He didn't say he didn't know that the internet exists. He just didn't know one can listen to music on the internet.

There should be lots of people who still don't use the internet. It is not THAT weird.

He's from England, so that's why I find it hard to believe he wasn't familiar with the internet until 2010.

I like most prog metal, and most of it that I've come to be familiar with is/was due to PA!  I was never a real "metal head" growing up (except some early Rush); now I like it more than ever, and have even gotten into some of the growls (which I used to despise).

But nearly all my friends who like Prog (to some degree--few are actually "prog-heads" like I am) do NOT generally like the prog metal I've presented to them.

BTW, so far, this poll seems to verify the conversation of just a couple days ago in my random shuffle post: (someone suggested PA was becoming "metal archives" but this comment was met with much disagreement, and I suggested heavier tracks seemed not to do as well in the random polls).

^ Technically, you're saying he's lying about not having been familiar with the internet before the year 2010. I didn't say you accuse him of being a liar. According to you, he is not telling the truth here. I would be surprised if that is the fact. Wink

Fates Warning  (USA)          The Spectre Within                         (Prog, a. 2014)   (1985)

Psychotic Waltz  (USA)         Into the Everflow                         (Prog, a. 2010)    (1992)

Gordian Knot  (USA)            Gordian Knot                                (Prog, a. 2009)    (1999)

Tool                                    Lateralus                             (Alternative/Prog, a. 2010)   (2001)

Aesma Daeva  (USA)            The Eros of Frigid Beauty      (Symph/Goth/Prog, a. 2022 Tongue) (2001)

Taal  (F)                              Skymind                                         (Prog, a. 2011)   (2002)

OSI  (USA)                          Office Of Strategic Influence               (Prog, a. 2012)   (2003)

Indukti  (PL)                        S.U.S.A.R.                                       (Prog, a. 2011)    (2004)

Riverside  (PL)                     Second Life Syndrome                      (Prog, a. 2018)   (2005)

I can tell that I like best heavy and organic, not synthetic sound, and not much Pop-influence.

As I seem to have seen it, most of Prog Metal is influenced by Neo-Prog, and what I like is that without this influence. At the same time, I don't like growling vocals, so it hasn't been easy for me with Prog Metal, and it has been some easier with non-Prog.

I can't believe someone thinks Arena are prog metal. Ok, maybe the later stuff is but they certainly started out as more neo prog.

I stay pretty far away from it, but I do own a few titles:

Ksiz - Nerve of War
Liquid Tension Experiment - I and II
Special Providence - Soul Alert

The last two are more proggy and less metallic, IMO.

Actually, I do find that hard to believe, not because mobile phones are such wonderful things and how could you be without one, but because there are forces at work pushing us all into having a smart phone simply to prove who we are.

No, I know how to behave in the restaurant now, I don't tear at the meat with my hands. If I've become a man of the world somehow, that's not necessarily to say I'm a worldly man.
