Over The Astonishing, yes, i agree, as for the rest, not quite. I still need to listen to the new one some more. I enjoyed Distance Over Time a lot more.

I prefer Systematic Chaos more than Train of Thought, The Astonishing, Octavarium, self titled, or A View from the Top of the World.

Until I first went online in 2010, I had no idea you could listen to music on the Internet, mainly because I still thought You Tube was the name of a TV show. Not surprisingly, I'm no fan of Dream Theater's Systematic Chaos album either, although I'll resist the temptation to give it a thumbs down.

I've noticed, but then I can say that the last 15 years, my approach has been very systematical, as well (top lists).

You could still listen to it somewhere online. I remember listening to Systematic Chaos somewhere and to this day it's one of the least favorite DT albums for me, glad I didn't buy it before listening.

I couldn't tell you the exact year but I remember buying Train of Thought before 2010, when I first went online. Even now, I often buy albums without hearing them first, but that's usually because they only cost £1 from a charity shop or car boot sale, so I don't have much to lose.

Well, I would never give any of your posts the thumbs down. That would be rude. To be honest, I wouldn't have bought Dream Theater's Train of Thought if I'd listened to the album first.

what do you mean by "old school heavy rock"? Is it Sabbath, Heep and Purple? Budgie, High Tide and Rainbow?

When someone behaves inappropriately for example. Also you have expressed your dislike through words, there's no need for the emoticon, it's redundant. |

When else am I going to use the thumbs down icon other than expressing my dislike for an artist or album?

Nobody uses the thumbs down emoticon to express dislike for an artist or album, only you. It feels arrogant TBH.

Train of Thought is my least favourite Dream Theater album, so I'm hardly likely to give it a thumbs up.

Usually but not always... I have a couple of Dream Theater albums (the earlier work), two Queensr˙che albums (Operation Mindcrime and Empire), two Savatage albums (of which I actually only really enjoy one: Gutter Ballet) and I think that's about it. I've listened to much more, also from these same bands, but most of it leaves me rather indifferent or is more of the same or just annoys me (especially when djent and the double bass drum seem to become something obligatory without doing it justice to the music...); to my ears it is often very formulaic (as is a lot of music, prog included, anyway).
