We just re-listened to the two albums with Beatles covers by B for Bang, "Across the Universe of Languages" from 2008 and "Rewires the Beatles" from 2010. The songs are all radically altered; with some of them you actually have no idea what they are playing until the lyrics come in. Two very experimental and avant-garde albums.

The band was co-founded by classical pianist Katia Labeque, who for some time was married to guitar player John McLaughlin (the marriage had an ugly ending). Miles Davis actually dedicated two songs to her. Of course the piano playing on these albums is absolutely brilliant.

National Lampoon | Lemmings
Lou Reed & Metallica | Lulu
Jack Bruce | More Jack Than God
Savoy Brown | Blue Matter
Blur | Think Tank
Elvis Costello & the Attractions | Goodbye Cruel World
Chicago | Chicago (II) (Steven Wilson Remix)
Cream | Disraeli Gears
Elvis Costello | Taking Liberties
The Fall | Slates EP
Latin Playboys | s/t
Carla Bley | Escalator Over the Hill
Magma | Zëss
Cheech & Chong | Up in Smoke (Soundtrack)

Highly recommend that National Lampoon album if you’re a fan of Woodstock (the movie, the bands, or the “legend” of it all). It was part of a stage show and there’s original footage on YouTube. I had it on cassette years ago but finally repurchased a used vinyl copy. Dark humor parody with some really great songs, including a perfect Bob Dylan impression by Christopher Guest.

Killing Joke— Lords of Chaos (EP) 2022

Killing Joke— Pylon (2021 Remaster 2CD deluxe) this release flew right under the radar for me. Bought it today and I like the new remaster. It is a bit brighter but not in a bad way. Original still sounds best though. Highly recommended!!

Kevin Rieple— Gears of War ( Original video game soundtrack.)

How d’you feel about Lulu Steve? I honestly can’t recall ever having really sat down and listened to the thing….but every once in a while it gets mentioned on here either being vastly underrated or just thrown in the pillory for all to see.
Funny how some albums evolve.

Me yesterday:
Killing Joke - Night Time (nice picks btw Nick )
The Cure - Three Imaginary Boys
Oranssi Pazuzu - Mestarin Kynsi
Charles Mingus - The Black Saint & The Sinner Lady
Plastikman - Artifakts (BC)
Peter Gabriel - Car
Die Wilde Jagd - s/t
Bruno Pernadas - Those Who Throw Objects…
Ulver - ATGCL and so forth
Yes - Tales From Topographic Oceans

@David, re Lulu:

I think the biggest mistake people made at the outset was to think of it as a Metallica album. It’s 100% Lou, which means be ready for the occasional surprise (looking through his career, he’s done some baffling stuff here and there). I don’t think he even needed Metallica for this, but by using them and giving them co-top-billing I think he had to have been trolling. The band must have known too, and been ok with it, for reasons of their own.

Next time you put it on, try putting on disc 2. Much of that material is fairly moody and not annoying at all. In fact the last song Junior Dad is the best on the album. Disc one can be a little hard to take at times, but disc 2 is more subtle and deep, I think.

Not a great album by any means, but as a Lou fan I have no real problem with it.

Hey guys, been awhile but peep in via phone now and then, hope everyone is doing ok!

^Lou Reed and Metallica, did not know that existed and sounds like an odd mix, but as a modest Lou fan, not so much of Metallica, I may have to try it out.

Been on a damn Damazon buy-a-thon of artists "5 classic CDs" bundles and a few others.  So, for the past few weeks:

Rick Wakeman - The Six Wives of Henry the VIII
Rick Wakeman - Journey to the Centre of the Earth
Rick Wakeman - King Arthur & Knights of the Round Table (too lazy for the whole title)
Rick Wakeman - No Earthly Connection
Rick Wakeman - White Rock
Alice Cooper - Billion Dollar Babies (loved this in the teen years)
Alice Cooper - Muscle of Love
Alice Cooper - Welcome to My Nightmare
Alice Cooper - Goes to Hell
Alice Cooper - The Alice Cooper Show (live)
Steve Hackett - Voyage of the Acolyte
Steve Hackett - Please Don't Touch
Steve Hackett - Spectral Mornings
Steve Hackett - Defector
Steve Hackett - Highly Strung
Jethro Tull - Songs From the Wood
Jethro Tull - Heavy Horses
Jethro Tull - Stormwatch
Jethro Tull - A
Jethro Tull - The Broadsword and the Beast
Jean-Luc Ponty - Upon the Wings of Music
Jean-Luc Ponty - Aurora
Jean-Luc Ponty - Imaginary Voyage
Jean-Luc Ponty - Enigmatic Ocean
Jean-Luc Ponty - Cosmic Messenger
U2 - Achtung Baby
Johnny Cash - Gospel Glory
Jean Michel Jarre - In Concert Houston-Lyon
Peter Gabriel - Shaking the Tree
Music of Pink Floyd - David Palmer and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra
Kerry Livgren - Resurrection of Lazarus
Yes - The Quest
Styx - Crash of the Crown

Maybe a few others but don't remember...

^^ I have that Jethro Tull five-fer! Quite a great deal for a very strong run of albums.

Last night & Today:

George Harrison | All Things Must Pass
George Harrison | Living in the Material World
Queen | Queen II
Vak | Budo - excellent Zeuhl discovery from 2020 virtual Prog Day. Hoping for the festival to return this year.
Guerilla Toss | Famously Alive - brand new, did not disappoint
Hurdy Gurdy | Hurdy Gurdy - Claus Bøhling’s early 70s psych power trio. He is the man.
Genesis | Genesis
Soft Machine | Facelift: France & Holland — brand new 2 CD + DVD, nicely restored 1970 footage.

You actually made it fairly easy for me in that nowadays I am far more of a Lou fan than a Metallica one…which is completely opposite David ca. 13 years old
Anyhoo thanks for the info. I think I’ll lend it my ears at some point.

Btw Hi Jim! Looks like you’ve been looking hard at those incredibly cheap 5 classic albums compilations…just like me Edgar Broughton Band, Soft Machine, Parliament, Kevin Ayers, Dr John, Echo & The Bunnymen, Passport, Paul Simon etc etc.. There are many of these out there..and well the sound is awesome too. Part of me thought I would be getting some poor remaster or something to that effect back when I first got one of these through the door…but nahh they sound great! Methinks Steve Hackett is calling me when I get home from work.

Me yesterday:
The Cure - Faith
Delirium - lll
Black Midi - Cavalcade
John Coltrane - Sun Ship
Cluster - Zuckerzeit
Amon Düül ll - Vive La Trance
Jean-Paul Prat - Masal

I have the 5CD set of Santana, from Caravanserai to Amigos. I have yet to hear the last disc.

I bought that album a while ago and there's a track near the end that always cracks me up. They constantly repeat apparently meaningless vocals but in Portuguese means "Look, it smells like dogs in here. Yeah, it does!" LOL

Last few days:
Propaganda - A Secret Wish
Breidablik - Alduorka
Motorpsycho - Black Hole /Black Canvas

I am most definitely going to remember that for my next spin. What somewhat surprises me is the fact that it seems to make perfect sense in Portuguese..

Me yesterday:
Darkside - Spiral (Really nice find for me. Psychedelic artpop teams up with Krautrock, electronic and some suave progressive ideas thrown in for good measure. First spin and later on today I’m jumping aboard for another one.)
Peter Gabriel - 4
The Orb - Orblivion
Steve Hackett - Please Don’t Touch
Dungen - Tio Bitar
Gorguts - Obscura
Tim Buckley - Lorca

Oh man this thread is cooking again with some of my favourite repeat offenders. Lol.

Just got a couple of short EP’s done on the train today. :)

Killing Joke- Lords Of Chaos. ( David! I’d give this a go. I mean If you like KG with in their more industrialized sound since 2006’s Hosannas In The Basement you’ll dig the EP, my friend. Killing Joke turned 42 this year. :)

Roxy Music— More Than This. ( A lovely 3 track EP, which includes the amazing Cover of John Lennon’s Jealous Guy.

Lastly. Sorry gentlemen. Lou Reed and Metallica don’t mix. I thought Lulu was god awful. Ah well. You can’t like everything.
Gimmie my headphones now!!! 🎧🤣
