I put non-progger because on balance I listen to more non-prog than prog music, although prog would probably be my most listened to genre but I would guess at around 30-40% of my listening.

A progger primarily because I don't get sick of it. Most other genres wear thin for me pretty fast.

I can't really say I'm either one, it's probably pretty close to half and half. I do love my prog, but I have a lot of love for a lot of other things as well.
Porg for short. My love of music doesn't end with prog! Feel free to discuss all sorts of music with me. Odds are I'll give it a chance if I haven't already! :)

Don't listen to a lot of country but there are a few songs here and there. I do however like some alt country, rockabilly, gospel and other traditional styles (bluegrass, honky tonk, Appalachian folk)

Modern pop country though is one particular style of music that induces my gag reflexes LOL

Went with I can't really say. I go through period where I will listen to mostly prog but then through stretches of other types.

All phonetic joking aside, I'm quite partial to some Johnny Cash, Hank Williams and George Jones when all that fancy learnin' starts looking like running all over hell's half acre y'all. Does 'Modern Pop Country' include the execrable 'Bro Country?'

Generally speaking i dislike country after the early 1980s. I have to admit there are some pop country crossover hits from the 70s and 80s that are fun. I have no idea what bro country is!!!

The only modern country i like would be considered alt country. Artists like 16 Horsepower, Lucinda Williams, The Jayhawks, Son Volt, Neko Case, Steve Earle, Woven Hand, Gillian Welch, etc. A few others like Dwight Yoakam and Iris DeMent work for me too otherwise it's classic country from the early 80s and before that works for me but it's hardly a style of music i listen to on a regular basis.

Lucinda Williams is great! I would also add Uncle Tupelo, Blue Mountain, Dire Straits, and Junior Brown.

I voted "progger" because most of the music I listen to is prog, and most of the remainder is at least a little bit proggy in some sense. On the other hand, most prog doesn't actually appeal to me, and prog clichés tend to be viewed negatively by me. In other words, I seek something unusual and special in the music I listen to, and generally don't know what I'm looking for until I've found it.

No, I know how to behave in the restaurant now, I don't tear at the meat with my hands. If I've become a man of the world somehow, that's not necessarily to say I'm a worldly man.

I listen to classical, dub, punk, post punk, psychedelia, indie, eastern european and middle eastern/north african folk, jazz, blues, reggae, pop, heavy rock, afrobeat, some hip hop/drill/trap (the list goers on) Prog represents about 40% of my input.

In recent times, I've been purchasing music from Bandcamp, more or less abandoning the brick and mortar music store that I would buy my music from in the past. This shift has also been a shift away from physical media, though I still may purchase the CD if available in addition to the digital download (that is, I'm becoming less concerned if the CD is not available). In the past, I tended to allow music to come to me rather than actively seek music. But now I tend to listen to a sampling of what's available on Bandcamp with the view of possibly purchasing new music that in the past I would never be exposed to. But this newfound desire for more music has highlighted that I don't actually know what music I'm seeking. I can't sample every album listed in Bandcamp, not even every progressive rock album listed, so I have to use clues supplied by the artist name, album name, or the album cover art to provide a shortlist. Even if this can provide an indication of the type of music, it doesn't help if one doesn't know what type of music one is looking for. I actually discovered Nolan Potter's Nightmare Band because the name Nolan Potter reminded me of Nic Potter from Van der Graaf Generator. I wasn't expecting any connection, but it did provide a selection basis that was more interesting than random. Yesterday I discovered the self-titled album by French band Arachnoid, released in 1979. Here's the cover:

Remind you of anything? The point is that if one doesn't know what to look for, then allowing something peripheral to the music to grab one's attention might actually be a good way to choose, particularly if one is looking for something different and interesting.

I'm familiar with this album, Prophesy, as it's one of the French Prog albums which are quite highly rated. And yes, the cover art reminds me of a spider but that might be partly due to that I associate the title with a spider.

I certainly understand your present problem, and can say that I in my very young days often bought music if I liked the cover, and often with good result. In the last quite a lot of years, I've searched for new-to-me-music by means of lists with high rated albums - but that presumed searching by specific genres. So, all I can say is that there are many different possibilities for finding new music, and one must think about it and find own way which gives good result.

Anyway, good luck with it, and I must say, I'm impressed with the very good quality of your writing. Smile

By the way, if that could have your interest as a possible help, I could send you the list of my collection which is written in Word (about 450 albums). I can at least say that it's to high degree a list of old and newer classics and high rated albums from many countries and covering many different genres, Prog being though the main one. If so, send me a private message.

I'm guessing the point was that the spidery hand resembles Gentle Giant's Free Hand-cover?
