Krautrock has already a very extensive thread which gets bigger all the time,

but here's a good possibility to tell about one's favourites.

Mine unranked:

              Agitation Free  (D)  -  Malesch   (1972)

Amon Düül II  (D)  -  Yeti, Wolf City   (70, 72)

Ash Ra Tempel  (D)  -  Ash Ra Tempel   (1971)

             Can   -  Ege Bamyasi   (1973)

             Electric Sandwich  (D)  -  Electric Sandwich  (1973)

             Embryo  (D)  -  We Keep on  (1973)

             Faust  (D)  -  Faust IV  (1973)

             Gila - Free Electric Sound (D)  -  Gila  (1971)

             Guru Guru  (D)  -  Hinten  (1970)

             Kraan  (D)  -  s/t  (1972)

             NEU!  (D)  -  NEU!  (1972)

             Orange Peel  (D)  -  Orange Peel   (1972)

And I hope, you'll enjoy it! Smile

Aallriight, Nogbad, I didn't imagine that our favourites ever could be so much the same - even I'm in fact fond of about the half of the albums, you've listed as your Heavy Prog favourites.
Glad to see!

Hi,

I really have no "favorites". It's hard for me to say that I love this or that, and then I put on Sebastium en Truam, and I fall apart and away so fast just like I did with all the others. I can still cry when I hear Mother Sky. I still fly and float when I hear the Yeti title piece. And I absolutely love a lot of the Ash Ra Tempel material including the stuff that was "bad" or "stolen". And then, all I have to do is put on one of the DVD's or shows from the toob, on with Tangerine Dream from 1995 to 2015 ... and it just takes me away so fast. And I still am nowhere I know where when I hear Stratosfear.

"It's all too much" ... and now ... some Edgar for me! The English version of "krautrock".
Music is not just for listening ... it is for LIVING ... you got to feel it to know what's it about! Not being told!

For those who might be interested I can recommend the book Krautrock. Cosmic Rock and its legacy edited by Nikolaos Kotsopoulos.

Luckily, I had just enough albums in my list to make it a Top 10. Smile

It was my introduction to krautrock, so there's a lot of sentimentality wrapped up in it for me, but Die grüne reise by A.R. & Machines is my favorite. Neu!'s self-titled and Faust IV are also pretty up there for me.

My reply in Your Top 12 German Prog Albums last September will have to do.

Originally posted by Saperlipopette! Saperlipopette! wrote:

Can - Ege Bamyasi (but anything from their debut up to and including Soon over Babulama would make the list)
Popol Vuh - Nosferatu: On the Way to a Little Way / Brüder Des Schattens - Söhne Des Lichts
Cosmic Jokers - Galactic Supermarket
Tangerine Dream - Phaedra
Embryo - Stieg Aus (but they've got like six equally strong contenders)
Klaus Schulze - Mirage
Amon Düül II - Yeti
Faust - So Far
Kraan - Kraan
Kraftwerk - Die Mensch-Maschine
Cluster - Zuckerzeit
Dzyan - Electric Silence

Loads more I would have like to include: Frankie Dymon Jr (just doesn't really feel german), Dom, Harmonia, Deuter, Brave New World, Kalacackra, A.R + Machines, Tortilla Flat mm...

Again: Not one of my favorite sub-genres--more because I don't quite understand how to define it (Faust, Neu!, Can, Ash Ra Tempel, Amon Düül II, Grobschnitt, Popol Vuh, Cluster, and Brainticket all under the same sub-genre?!?!?! That's crazy!)
But there are some albums I've enjoyed:

Agitation Free Malesch
Grobschnitt Solar Musick Live!
Popol Vuh Hosiannah Mantra andTantric Songs
Electric Orange Morbus and Volume 10
Wserbergland Am Ende der Welt and Sehr Kismisch, Ganz Progisch
Ash Ra Tempel Ash Ra Tempel
Amon Düül II Yeti
Øresund Space Collective The Black Tomato
Vespero The Waters of Tomorow and The Four Zaos
Brainticket Cottonwood Hill and Celestial Ocean
Ulver ATGCLVLSSCAP
The Spacelords Liquid Sun

I certainly find the definition a challenge, as well, but I haven't let it stop me, either. Big smile
