How do they do this when 2021 is not even over yet?

I swear I need a couple of months after New Year's to digest all of a year's music! And even then I'm always discovering things I missed--sometimes years later!

I guess they have heard everything that will be released this year, as presumably journalists get access to advance copies?  And it's their job to listen to them, whereas we don't have the time!!

Hi,

The one thing that is really scary for me, is that PA seems to be out of touch with the listing ... of the whole thing, I only see posts on 3 of those in the list (regularly), and too many on "nothing", except top 69th album!

I have heard at least 5 more of those and enjoy them, but the listing is really weak and not capable of "expanding" at all. A couple of looks at Space Pirate Radio listings, would show real quick ... where is the new stuff? ... instead of half the listing being the same old chit!

I own 3 on this list (SW, IM and Transatlantic), have listened to maybe another 3-4 online just to see if I wanna buy the physical media...Well I didn't. I had some high hopes for DT but that is now utterly lone gone, they truly are progmetal by numbers now.
Leprous and Frost were interesting but I don't see myself having repeated listens on those.

Having SW on the list period but to even put him in the top 5 is only playing to those who are just getting into this music, as stated very very prog lite, it's almost click bait. For me its an enjoyable album but not to be mentioned on a prog album list. SW should be pissed that it is even there, he knows it's not prog and as much as he hates genre labels should detest Prog Mag even mentioning his last album.....That was not his target audience with the album.

The rest of the albums I have no interest in delving into based on what I have heard in the past.

They already know how much each label spent on advertising in the mag for the first ten months of the year...

Me, I still don't know what my top albums of 1973 are. Keeps changing.

Not to mention the not inconsiderable sums these small labels have to pay to get one of their stable to feature on the cover CD...
Music has always been a matter of energy to me. On some nights I believe that a car with the needle on empty can run 50 more miles if you have the right music very loud on the radio. Hunter S Thompson

Hi,

I don't mean that in a bad way ... however, that listing is sad and not very progressive when so many of the folks listed are has beens that we have heard before, and really ... are no longer enthused by! I doubt that bands like DT, Transatlantic and Iron Maiden can get past their illusions of grandeur, in their music, which is more of a repetition of what they have done before than otherwise. And we're talking at least 8 of those listed here, which suggests that the folks that created this listing did not hear a whole lot of anything else!

I almost think, and hope, that if we did this here today on PA the list would be quite different and not so admired and kissed by the better known bands. I find it sad ... Kairon;IRSE ... Agusa ... Patrick Gautier ... Gert Emmens ... and many others, have put out stuff that is very superior to that which is listed here, but it won't get a chance, because of the commerciality of the bands listed on that magazine, which makes you wonder who their owners and sponsors are, don't you think? And there should be at least one if not two, Japanese listings in there of some very well done stuff. It is crazy to think that we allow our tastes to be "dictated" by someone that "owns" the magazine, and publishes stuff like that. A total indictment of the abuse of power and then saying it is the public's vote! And worse ... we go and listen to those albums giving that list a bigger credibility than it deserves!

It's like saying we're empty and can not find great music on our own! Confused  We have to have someone dictate to us what "good" (or evil on Sundays!) is all about!

Given their dreadful selections, they probably don't realize that the year ISN'T over yet! LOL
