No, don't close it! I'm actually interested in all of the great bands from the beginning to the year 2000! :)

No worries......Except you mentioned "pioneers". Ann and Nancy Wilson formed Heart in 1967, pretty much all other female fronted hard rock bands came afterwards. I promise you every one of these bands will cite Heart as the reason they started.

Not sure anyone has mentioned Girlschool....saw them open for Scorpions in 1982.

we'd be pretty ignorant if we did not mention Girlschool by page 3 of this thread. Confused

I mentioned them as well as several others.

No I did, my first post was on page 1. This is not the only music site I go to. So forgive me if I forget what may have been posted 20 hours ago. I did say I was "not sure"..... LOLLOLLOL

let's just stay above the moral melee
prefer the sink to the gutter
keep our sand-castle virtues
content to be a doer
as well as a thinker,
prefer lifting our pen
rather than un-sheath our sword

They must have passed me by back in the day - I am suitably impressed with this recommendation.

Grace Slick in Jefferson Airplane in 1965 & Janis Joplin in Big Brother & The Holding Company in 1966 have to be mentioned alongside Heart and pre-date them.

Special mention to lead singer Jinx Dawson and her band Coven from the late 60s/early 70s.

From Wikipedia (note the name of the bass player and the song):
Quote Coven was composed of vocalist Esther "Jinx" Dawson, bassist Greg "Oz" Osborne, guitarist Chris Neilsen, keyboardist Rick Durrett (later replaced by John Hobbs), and drummer Steve Ross. They are recognized by metal fans and metal historians as being the band that introduced the "Sign of the horns" to rock, metal and pop culture (as seen on their 1969 debut album release Witchcraft Destroys Minds & Reaps Souls, which has an opening track called "Black Sabbath").

Another band that had previously passed me by - so far I'm liking what I'm hearing.
