Hi,

I might check these, however, in my experience including the folks doing a lot of the "radio" shows that are listed on PA, in general, the person running the show is not a "musicologist" (with a historic knowledge of the music) but just another fan, and too much of the music has a similar sound, not to mention that everything lasts 4 or 5 minutes, or what is imagined to be a listener's attention span. I can attest this is wrong for progressive listeners, as when I ran a show on the Real Audio server with 25 feeds, listeners to my show (files were online, so there was no time for folks to be there kind of thing!) were averaging over 12 to 13 minutes each time.

It will be a hot day (or cold day!) in Timbuktu when someone will play the Marilyn Monroe Memorial thing, or a complete side of the Cosmic Couriers or Popol Vuh, or Klaus Schulze ... and I even heard one of these shows listed on PA do a 5 minute part/bit from KS's Mirage ... I wanted to disconnect that guy so fast I could kill! The one thing we need the most with "progressive/prog" listeners is RESPECT for the music and the artists ... and that was an example of how short sided and screwed up that show was!
Music is not just for listening ... it is for LIVING ... you got to feel it to know what's it about! Not being told!

Wow, one more reason to stare at your phone. You have to admire their tenacity in breaking through such a tired and crowded field.

Yeah! Stare at your computer screen instead! If staring at your phone and chatting with folks on discord makes one happy, than I see no issue with it Beer

Hi,

I used to play some AD2, Can and other things while gaming on Discord and even got asked many times what that was ... so there are folks that have an ear for music, and our Guild did have a thread for music though I do not remember who put it together or who was streaming it but it was continuous.

Listening to the tube, buying a CD, or your friend has some weird stuff, is not the only way to hear some things, and they all work, however small that might be.

My main concern is that we do not shut the door on some of these things ... DISCORD is a much better solution for doing a SHOW than the streaming thing, since the streaming thing costs a lot more and some sites will not save the files or the show anyway, so what you did is history! DISCORD is the same, but you are "live" and that allows for some fun things to do. AND, are not limited to the size of a file, or how long something can be, which is a hassled in a streamlined show, when someone is only doing an hour, and he/she (I think I have only heard one woman do this in the last 5 years!) can not burn it with a 20 minute piece of 30 minute if it were KS.

The only issue I have with DISCORD is the fact that some folks login and they are stoned immaculate or drunk to the gills and then become a distraction to the whole thing and it kinda renders the music ... not as much fun, although the moderator could easily cut off that listener, and probably should for the duration of the music itself and then allow for some comments. I would hate to see someone destroy a piece while listening because of their silly comments, for example!

Hi,

Are you suggesting that many of us are not doing anything else? My office is 2 computers side by side, btw. My music machine and instruments in another room all networked. Earphones on that machine listening to the music and me writing like crazy on this machine! A laptop would be just as good, although I do not like the fidelity in almost all laptops at all ... I listen to Space Pirate Radio in a really good computer that allows me a fantastic sound (and no connection drops) and I can record it on Audacity if I feel like it!

Almost no one that I knew was just on DISCORD doing nothing else, including the many folks on a raid in WoW Classic, which I do not play anymore. One guy, one time (funny!) was changing diapers while also playing his Warlock!

You get all kinds!

This is sadly true... I dismayingly observed that when I was a teacher. Fidget spinner was the worst...

I work with young people a lot too. Fidget spinners are what video game addicts do when they are having withdrawals. They were invented by satan.

You’re saying this as if you guys didn’t have pet rocks and mood rings when you were kids. Gimmicks and Fads are neat, and they’re always fun to look back on when you get older. I had Silly Bandz when I was in elementary school for example. Regardless, Discord isn’t a fad or a new concept. It’s a really well ironed out and convenient medium for live chat/voice chat. The fact that I can just open up discord and talk with a big group of big Camel or Hatfield and the North fans in real time.... well pardon me for being a little enveloped in it. I’ve also discovered a lot of great music through it, and we’ll often have listening parties which isn’t really something you can do on a forum.

As for myself, I can say that I played truant and went to arcades a lot when I was small. But, I was different in school... Well, I wasn't an obedient saint, but I wasn't playing with stupid things too... Anyway, I guess we weren't blaming the youngsters here. Believe me, they deserved it actually. The teenage students are the biggest pain in the ass for teachers. Wink

FB is a good way for me to keep in touch with far-flung friends and family that I don't see in person. but Twitter?Dead  Twitter is just full of psychos (your good self excluded of course). I only use it to complain to companies.

^ Exactly - I prefer to keep my Twitter account locked, that way I can keep my thoughts between my confirmed followers.

Don't say anything to upset vegans, LGBT+ activists, cyclists, feminists, or religious nutters.

Pet rocks and mood rings? When I was a kid, it was yoyos, wrist rockets, and BB guns. And marbles, which was probably the equivalent of spinners.

No, the worse is some young 5hithead engineer doing the pen spin on his/her fingers during meetings. If I had my way I'd tell them to put it down stop being so distracting.

Oh, I'm glad that I had changed my job before Satan invented this (see the video below). Or was it aliens' craft?
