Difficult choice but I always regarded Henry Cow in the second rank although they never troubled the album charts.

Nice poll indeed!
![]() Saw the thread's title and came here with 'Maxophone' in my head (till I saw it was a poll). You know, Rush is an integral part of my 'rockish' personal Big 8 (along with Marillion). So, out of it, it had to be PFM or Maxophone for me. As PFM is maybe more clearly associated with a sub-genre, RPI, it would have been interesting to vote for Maxophone and its English sung homonym and only LP (though I highly enjoy the Italian version too). Though, in all justice, maybe it would have to be PFM, don't know really. IQ is another one that rounds my head, but I only enjoy and find their first two albums to be Big 6-level. [EDIT] Sorry, I forgot Gong!.. (I knew I was forgetting one or two) strong contender for my 'Big 9' ![]() So Rush it is. Edited by Machinemessiah - April 17 2021 at 21:12 |

While I am a pretty big fan of some of these, especially Camel, GG, VDGG, and the Moody Blues, I voted for Rush.
Also, I would think from a popularity perspective having Eloy on the list would make more sense than having Grobschnitt even though I like them.

Are they still touring? Maybe they'll put out a new album at some point too then. Also, it's Van Der Graff Generator not Van De. I think maybe they added the r to avoid a lawsuit. Not sure.

I can not vote in this poll, but if I could pick, I could pick either Camel or Supertramp. With Camel, I love "Lady Fantasy" and the Snow Goose album, and think that Andrew Latimer is a great musician. With Supertramp, I always loved the Logical Song, which made me happy for years on end. The group had other songs I really enjoyed like "Goodbye Stranger", "Breakfast America", and "School", and David Gilmour played guitar on "Brother Where Are You Bound". I have yet to fully explore these bands, but they are going good for me so far, and is excited to see their other content.

I'm wondering why Kansas, Marillion and Porcupine Tree aren't on the list.

I've always had a soft spot for Renaissance. However if Marillion was there that's the one I would have voted for.

This is tough!
Basically a toss-up between Caravan, Magma and The Softs. I’m going with the former on this one. |
