Exactly what it sounds like. I'll start; this album, to this day, has THE cleanest production and mixing job I've ever heard. Yes it's mostly due to processing and lack of live instruments, but still, this sh*t sounds like it came out today, NOT 30 years ago in 1991!

Also 1991! I feel like that year was a noticeable bump in audio and video tech. Terminator 2, anyone?

Hey..I bought Dangerous on cassette tape back when it came out
Probably haven’t spun the album for about 25 years though...

Albums with great production, regardless of genre:
Lucio Battisti - Anima Latina
Paul Simon - Graceland
Cocteau Twins - Victorialand
Anna Von Hausswolff - Dead Magic
Simple Minds - Once Upon A Time
Art Zoyd - Häxan
David Bowie - Lodger

I have to give kudos to the production on the new Lifesigns release "Altitude" all the instruments are crystal clear and it still has a warmth to it, but I agree musical quality is more important - take "Nursery Cryme" for example.

Flower Kings - Sum of No Evil. One of my alltime top produced albums.

Production is not really a consideration for me, unless it's so bad you can't hear the component parts of the music.

But good production jobs which caught my attention over the years..

90125 - Yes
Welcome to the Pleasure Dome - FGTH
A Trick of the Tail - Genesis (superb for the time!)
Love over Gold - Dire Straits
Violator - Depeche Mode
Moving Pictures - Rush
A Secret Wish - Propaganda
Tin Drum - Japan
Ultimately bored by endless ecstasy!

First and foremost: Revolver and Sgt. Pepper. Because of the cutting edge recording techniques and tasteful use of classical and jazz instruments that perfectly fit the songs.

Other favourites in terms of production:
Pet Sounds
Dark Side of the Moon
OK Computer
A Night at the Opera
Almost everything involving Brian Eno
Sebastian - Cirkus Fantastica
Sort Sol - Flow My Firetear
Iggy Pop - The Idiot - especially "China Girl"!

Steely Dan "Aja" sounds perfect to me.
