I'd feel the same trying to do that with Klaus Schulze (his 80s output was not very good) or Buckethead, who I like, but I don't feel like I need fifty albums by. Some of his stuff's the definition of self-indulgent.

  5 stars Can You Hear Me? (1996) - The glorious combination of Rick's dynamic keyboards, Chrissie Hammond's angelic vocals and the heavenly choir, elevate this inspirational and devotional album up into the stratosphere. Even an atheist will love this album! Thumbs Up Heart

"A remix and in some cases rerecording of the original songs from Prayers. Much better all round but again the choir is not what it should be and so one day when I'm rich I'll re-record them again!!! Some great vocal work from Chrissie Hammond as always."

The band, vocals by the ever great Chrissie Hammond, Rick's use of different keyboards and the infusion of the choir create a feeling of peace, hope, and inspiration. Highly recommended to anyone who is spiritually inclined or not, because the music alone will just sweep you away."

Me too! Brian Auger also has quite an extensive discography, although he should be a doddle to complete compared to Rick Wakeman's seemingly endless list of albums. Smile

"A rather "poppy" album. The instrumentals are straightforward and the songs with vocals sound like American radio-rock especially the songs sung by Adam. The sound is also a little too safe for my taste. And there are no "dangerous" musical adventures at all on the album. So, a little uninteresting but not bad is my verdict."

That's 60 RW albums listened to so far (or 61 if you include the Norman Wisdom album), but I still have a long way to go to reach The Red Planet. Smile
 
I was only Going Slightly Mad when I listened to all of Queen's albums, but I haven't lost my marbles just yet listening to Rick Wakeman, although listening to The World of Wisdom album almost drove me mad. Wink

Not too long ago I picked up the Yes friends and relatives double cd. There's a Rick Wakeman track on there called "ice." Does anyone know what Rick album that's originally from?

When this song came on just now it sounded a bit familiar. A long time ago I taped "the time machine" from a Yes friend of mine and so I figured it might be from that album and low and behold it was. So I just answered my own question. I'm not sure why they picked that song for this compilation album though.

"Wonderful! Instrumental except for the narration at the beginning of each piece describing the 7 ancient wonders of the world. This is in the same class as 70's works like Criminal Record or Six Wives only with a more modern sound. The arrangements chosen are so beautiful and each tune really has its own character. Some are soft and laid back and others powerful and full of musical climaxes. I wish Rick makes more of this kind."




I never got to buy this album, but I saw phisically available once a Lord of the Rings album, which as far as I understand is basically this album renamed, and without narrations... as I understand it, they used 6 of the 7 songs from this albums (plus 3 from another purely piano album), and I have no idea if Ric was aware of this being done, or if it was just the record company looking for some moneymaking when the LotR movies hit big.

Au Contraire! I'm not bored in the slightest.  I've been listening to Rick Wakeman's albums practically non-stop since New Year's Day (that's 58 albums so far), and I've never had so much fun in all my life, so I suppose I must have led a sheltered life. Tongue
 
The music of Rick Wakeman is tremendously varied too, so you just never know what to expect from one album to the next. It could be Symphonic Prog; Pop/Rock; New Age; Classical; or even comedy with Norman Wisdom. Smile
 
And then there's the hidden gems, like the 5-star album above:- Fields of Green. Thumbs Up Heart





I'm glad it's being done, Rick really deserves the attention, and doesn't really get much of it, even here. For me he is just the embodiment of prog.

If I remember rightly in Paul's post about this, Rick said "Ice" was his best ever song (or something like that).

Can You Hear Me is definitely one of Rick Wakeman's greatest recordings. I gave the original "Prayers" album a 5-star rating too, and the re-recorded version sounds even better. You don't have to be religious to enjoy the album, but it helps. Smile
