Ok, that was a bit of a cruel joke about your lack of shared humour with Psycho Paul. Another joke you don't find funny. Wink
I agree with you though. Roger Waters is practically a Communist! Why would he contribute to a "Fascist" film?

I find The Wall fascinating, although I prefer the album to the film. It's a brutally honest piece of writing that's in part autobiographical and partly a look into Syd's decent into madness. Like many such pieces of work, it has many aspects and levels which one can explore and ponder on. The point about 'The Surrogate Band' is the danger of allowing bad things to happen through inaction.

I don't think Waters is a communist either.

Instead of gossip, why don't you go to the source -- Roger Waters.. There's a ton of interviews, current and past.

Yeah, Randy Newman has many times been accused of Shortism. He doesn't need another accusation. LOL
.....And Roger Waters has been accused of anti-Semitism, not surprisingly. Wink

You wanted me to talk about The Wall album instead of posting more "pointless" videos and that's what we're doing, is it not? Wink

I said you can do whatever you want with videos (just not full albums) since I was in the wrong it seems. But you're not paying attention.

I'm okay with posting famous songs, just not full albums generally or overloading topics with videos in many threads, which is something that some people have found issue with me (I've always had premium internet service).  That said, I'm more interested in hearing the lesser known ones and loved listening to that Cymbaline one and I love More (my favourite from it is "Cirrus Minor").

This is one of my absolute Pink Floyd favourites:
Thanks for posting that embryonic Pink Floyd video. That's the first time I've heard it, even though I spent the past few days listening to all of Pink Floyd's albums. Smile

Just read this from the first post to the most recent, and it’s the most entertaining discussion I’ve encountered on this forum!

Regarding the High Hopes video, I’m quite glad it was posted. I know the song, but I’d never seen the video. Yes, I could always have looked it up, but it’s never occurred to me to do so. So now I’ve seen a video I’d not seen, for a song I’m happy to listen to again.

Regarding DSotM, it’s a Floyd album I’ve always struggled with. I don’t dislike it by any stretch, but I’ve never quite understood why everyone thinks it’s so wonderful. It would appear well down my list if I were to rank Pink Floyd albums. That said, however, I think it is far more impressive live. Since buying the Experience edition, I’m not sure I’ve ever listened to the studio version again, as the Live At Wembley gig just seems superior.

My first ever Pink Floyd purchase was A Momentary Lapse of Reason, as that was the album released around the time I was starting to buy my own music. I have a feeling I therefore probably rate it above DSotM because it was my first, and the first album you buy from any artist tends to remain special, even if you later realise it is far from the “best” if you are to think less subjectively. Nevertheless, I do prefer MLoR to DSotM.

My favourite Pink Floyd album by a very large margin, though, is Wish You Were Here. The whole thing is perfect, and I love Roy Harper’s vocals on Have A Cigar. It was because of those that I investigated Roy Harper, who I’d not heard of previously.

^ Thanks Nick! I had High Hopes that a Pink Floyd fan would enjoy that video, even though they're likely to be very familiar with the song, so you just made it all worthwhile for me to post it here on this thread. Thumbs Up

It's not really among my very favourites, but I do think it's fascinating too. Just about the same with Dark Side of the Moon, actually. They are both fine examples of the whole being more than the sum of the parts.

I do like Dark Side very much, but indeed it's not among my very favourite Floyd albums. And I do like the live version a lot too... it's got a nice touch of the earlier Floyd still in it, but all in all, I think I give a slight preference to the final studio album... it sounds more polished, which seems to suite the album. As for a Momentary Lapse of Reason, from the later Floyd I actually much prefer The Division Bell. From Momentary Lapse, I prefer the live versions of my favourite songs. However, perhaps you would be interested on listening to the remixed version of the album on the new Later Years Box-set.

And indeed my very favourite album from Floyd (and any other band) is Wish you Were Here (closely followed by Animals), though I'm afraid that the one song I don't fully like so much on it is Have a Cigar (nothing really wrong with the song, really, it's only that the rest of the album is so wonderful by comparison).
