My final nomination will be Fever Tree's "Man Who Paints the Pictures"  First time I've entered a very heavy psych-rock piece.

I only posted CTM: La Mer, and that is still my nomination.

I am starting to fill in the final nominations, but no rush. You have until Wednesday night to make your final decision. (Let me know if I have overlooked someone, or gotten something wrong.)

Also, we have 14 participants so far, so if you are new (or old) and checking this thread out, you have time to nominate. Rules are in the first post. The more, the merrier.

I guess I'll go with Dedicated Follower of Fashion by the Kinks. Love the biting sarcasm (Ray Davies actually beat the hell out of a fashion designer and his girlfriend at a party following an argument over the idiocy of fashion), as well as the jangling guitar intro and outro.

to take the place of the mud shark in your mythology...

Some more impressions: Nick Drake can of course do no wrong. I was very impressed by La Mer. I mean, I love some catchy music and some straight songs, but this one is so inventive and at the same time intense. The same can probably be said about Deep Dead Blue, except that this one didn't grab my attention while working... which doesn't necessarily count against it of course. King Missile surely did, I'm just not quite sure whether that was for the right reason Wink. The Guess Who - I love love love that band name. Unfortunately the posted song of them I really like is Long Gone and 8 minutes long. The Creatures - they create a pretty unique atmosphere here, very good.  The Nits - In the Dutch Mountains is probably the secret national anthem, iconic. My brother-in-law is actually one of the biggest Nits fans on earth, and he made me play this to death a bit... very good song but I probably wouldn't vote for it these days.
Oh, and I should have said earlier that the Kinks song I was referring to in the earlier post was the one posted by Snicolette.

By the way, my nomination can still be influenced. I'm not really sure what I'm going to do.

I love all 3 songs I posted...hard time deciding which to place on the list....tempted to pick Undun because some have commented on The Gues Who...but I thnk I'll go against the grain and pick 'Roll Away The Stone' by Russell.

'Roll away the stone, don't leave me here alone
Resurrect me and protect me, don't leave me layin' here
What will they do in 2000 years?'
Cool

Updated the poll and started a playlist for just nominees.

A couple more final nominees needed by end of day (and anyone new can suggest a song for the poll), and voting can start tomorrow morning.

I'm having the same problem as Raff with this poll. I'll just nominate this song:

Peixe:Avião - Quebra

More first thoughts on Lewian's additions and also a new one, from Samuel:

Lewian Einsturzende Neubauten “Haus der Luge”  As you can probably guess, the vocals are more strident than what I usually prefer.  Fits the lyrics, though.  Followed by his “Homeless”  More in the same sort of vein.  Just not my cup of tea.  Solarference and Pinback more my style, even though they are very different from each other.

Samuel:  Peixe:Avião – Quebra  Apocalyptic, booming drums and deep bass.  Kind of an eerie vocal, I like the sound of the piece, even without understanding the words.  Will see if I keep hearing it later today in my mind’s ear

The feedback for mine is very diverse... thanks Nicky for commenting, but anyway, I love both Pinback and Solarference a lot (and Caparezza for that matter), but I always have difficulties to find the outstanding individual songs. I listen to all their work and prefer one thing today and another thing tomorrow; same by the way with FM Einheit's brilliant solo work (there's a lot to be found for anybody who is up for this kind of sound experimental stuff; he has been pretty active after his time with the Neubauten). I also like Einstuerzende Neubauten generally, but Haus der Luege is, as I wrote, a monument, and it'll be my nomination.

Sam with a late entry and very good one.

I think I just need Lorenzo's nomination unless he had already stated it and I missed it. Or, any other late entries. It's a good variety we have spanning from the 60's to the 2010's.

Just played through the list.  Wow, this is going to be tough.  With the world in the state it is in, I tend to be craving the more minimal, understated sound the past few weeks as it kind of works in contrast to the chaos and soothes the soul, but then that late entry Peixe : Avião - Quebra took me by complete surprise. Right now, that track along with Deep Dead Blue are the top contenders for me, but, the selections are excellent, so anything can happen.

My nomination is

MORPHINE: Honey White
Amos Goldberg (professor of Genocide Studies at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem): Yes, it's genocide. It's so difficult and painful to admit it, but we can no longer avoid this conclusion.

Nice choice! A band I am quite familiar with. Both Cure for Pain and Yes were in heavy rotation throughout the 90's on my multi-disc CD player.
