Interactive Poll #16 - Under Cover

I'm going to break that tie with one of my all time favorite covers, so out of competition. (Besides I have plenty to choose from and have thought about another 10+ songs to post for a round 2.) CCR:

Memories Can't Wait is from the first album. 

@TCat: Very helpful and I'm delighted that you picked four of mine. I'm surprised you listed Visionary Mountains because I thought that that album (Nightingales and Bombers) is very well known among prog fans. It's my favourite of Manfred Mann's Earth Band and a five star album that I recommend to everyone. If more indicate that this was new to them, I may actually nominate it, although I'm tending to The Robots currently. Harder than ever picking the nomination.

It may be good to post originals of the nominated songs eventually. Of course some are very well known, but generally I'd not want to vote for simply what I like best (because of course if a band covers a stellar song in an OK way, it may be good just because the original  was great, not because the cover added much quality), but rather for what is either better or gives a nice surprising spin on the original.

And thank you very much for the kudos! I am so glad this poll was so successful, especially after having missed the last couple. We definitely need to do covers again, since there are so many great ones that deserve to be explored. As I posted yesterday, we might let this poll run for even a bit longer than the coming weekend, unless someone already has an idea for the next one and wants to start it as soon as possible. I'll ask Micky again if he wants to suggest something, but don't be upset if he doesn't. He's just like that sometimes.

Anyway, I managed to listen to the whole playlist, and found a lot of great covers I wasn't familiar with. Besides some that need no introduction (like Johnny Cash's "Hurt", which I found very touching), I was particularly impressed by The Heimatdamisch's cover of "Sweet Child o' Mine". While the cover of "Highway to Hell" was more of a parody, this one sounded more "serious", if you get my meaning, and - at least to me - even better than the original (I'm not a big G'n'R fan anyway).

Live - Walk the Line

I only know Manfred Mann's Earth Band material from the radio or MTV, and where I grew up, it amounted to the Springsteen covers and the song Runner from what I can recall. While I liked the songs, it didn't get me into exploring their albums. So, the cover was new to me as well. I'll look into the album.  

I thought about posting originals but that would really blow things up. I guess for ones for lesser know originals. I also really liked Dominique Horwitz “Die Seeräuber-Jenny”. Had to look up a traditional rendition for comparison, and came up with this one. 

 

That Doors version of Stairway was fun. These covers where a song is done in a style of another artist is a neat subcategory to look at. I have one or two I might post later as 'bonus' material.
