I suggested Annie Haslam for inclusion in the PA database a few months back, but unfortunately for me, she was rejected, although it turned out to be fortunate for the purposes of this poll.

Technically, Annie's cover of Ripples is on PA since the album that it's from is in the database of tribute albums.
But, since Annie herself isn't, it does stick with the rules.

We're almost at the century mark. 98 and counting. If anyone notices that I've omitted a song, let me know.

I thought I stop posting stuff, but at 98 I may just complete the century. I'll not nominate these but anyway, have fun! |

^ That's a nice coincidence ! I thought posting Status Quo's You're in the Army Now, because most of you probably think it is their song. But it isn't, they too covered it. The original is from my fellow countrymen Bolland & Bolland (more succesful as producers than as performers, BTW): The Laibach version is really great, too !

You're right, I thought it is Status Quo's original. Actually I hated the Status Quo song when I heard it for the first time and then for quite some time, but it has a certain catchy quality, and I have to admit that in the meantime I almost have started to like it. The playlist just threw up the Annie Haslam one, I liked that. (Not that I'm surprised.)

One thing with putting
together these playlists is that YouTube’s algorithm starts to think it knows
what to recommend to me. It has led to some interesting and unexpected
recommendations. Such as this cute cover by Chicago School of Rock of Judas Priest’s “Victim of Changes”: Those kids were clearly
having fun. Nice to see that some kids are getting well educated! |

OK, here is up to the minute, done. I have no idea how anyone else keeps track, but I find this way really works for me, especially when there are so many. When we get to the nominations, I always give one or two more listens and check back to see what I felt on first listen. Here is one new entrant plus a couple more from people already in the queue.
Psychedelic Paul:
Annie Haslam “Ripples” As expected, gorgeous. Very good chance of this winning for me, as I’d
not heard it before. 😊 Mike: . Ulver “Shadows
of the Sun” Never heard this, enjoyed
it. I really like the horns,
especially. Perfectly deep and
ominous. Blue Oyster Cult “Betty Lou’s
Got a New Pair of Shoes” Well done
rocker (of course). Chicago School of
Rock “Victim of Changes” That was really cute! Scott: Skid Row “Delivering the Goods” As would be expected of Skid Row. Just not my thing. But you did have some things that caught my ear, amongst your many potentials. Lewian: . Laibach “In the
Army Now” That was pretty chilling…can’t
say I liked it, but definitely gave me shivers.
Followed by “Across the Universe” Like this much better than the In the
Army Now, but do prefer the original, although they did a pretty good take one
it. Suitkees: Bolland
and Bolland “You’re In The Army Now” Interesting that more than one band would
pick this to cover. Political statements? I liked this one better, but still not a
favourite of these now, what 100+? potentials |

OK, after thinking long and hard about it, I've decided on my nomination. I'm going with the Living Colour/Talking Heads song, which needs to be more widely known and appreciated. However, there's no rush whatsoever for any of you to make your choice now. Listen, then listen again, and take your time!

That's a really good one, and definitely needs to be more widely known. I've appreciated the song and the band a long time. Seen them live a couple of times, though the last time was nearly 30 years ago for their tour promoting Time's Up inside the UCSD Gymnasium.

Talking Head's cover of Take Me to the River is among my all time favorite covers. I wasn't familiar with the Foghat version.

I always thought that was a Tom Petty song. I didn't realize that it was the Byrds, although I do have that Byrds' album and have heard that song...I guess I just forguddaboutit.

Since the poll is going to run until the end of the coming weekend, I'd say either tomorrow or Friday. Tomorrow might be better, because it would give me the time to put down all nominations in the list on Friday morning, as I am not active late at night. If we don't yet have volunteers for next poll, seen the sheer volume of suggestions, we may let it run even a few days longer than the weekend.
