So, we are up to 91 videos in the "all" playlist. Estimating an average of 5 minutes per song, that's well over 7 hours of music. I've been putting together "all" playlists since the Guilty Pleasures poll and that had the most at 105. It looks like this one will break that total.
I haven't listened to all but some really good stuff. I'm shuffle playing through, and it's producing some interesting sequences of music while I work.

I love that everyone here is interested in so many different kinds of music. I didn't think there would be quite so much metal in this poll, but here it is. I've been around a lot of it, and as you know, my second husband manages Bill Ward (who still is releasing his solo works from time to time, in his own way), who is one of the loveliest people I've ever met....and why I have strong feelings about Ozzy's other half. Second husband's best friend (now sadly no longer with us) was also Robert Plant's "personal" assistant for years, so I have heard some stories!
I do like some of the prog metal, most notably Riverside and I also enjoy Mariusz Dudek's other work and I like King's X. For me, though, I'm more old school when listening to Sabbath and the like from the early days. |

My nomination is:
Patti Smith: So you want to be a rock and roll star Track 3 of the album Wave. Raff please could you post the video from YouTube? I got problems with the wi-fi here on holidays. |
|||
Amos Goldberg (professor of Genocide Studies at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem): Yes, it's genocide. It's so difficult and painful to admit it, but we can no longer avoid this conclusion.

Take on Lorenzo's nomination:
Lorenzo:
Patti Smith “So You Want To Be A Rock and Roll Star” A most excellent choice. It keeps the slippy, slidy sound of the
original, yet brings a punk edge to it.
She’s just brilliant. |

Thirded! I've been listening for the past couple of days, and have found a lot to like. Some truly inventive reinterpretations of classic songs! To reassure you, I will very probably NOT nominate a metal song, because I know that metal is not everyone's cup of tea. Anyway, today is only Tuesday, so we still have plenty of time to listen and think about our own nominations. On an unrelated note, I agree about your dislike of Mrs. Osbourne. I just found out that, on top of everything else, she was a Brexit supporter, and complained about the UK having too many immigrants - all the while being one herself.

Hi everyone. I've been having a very lousy week and don't have the disposition to listen to every song but still want to participate in this poll. That "The Robots" cover made my day last Sunday though. Since there's a cover of a Deep Purple song why not have a great cover by Deep Purple? I've been listening to The Cardigans quite a lot lately and they have a couple of Black Sabbath. This one's my favourite: |

[/QUOTE] I am not afraid of metal! Yeah, Sharon. She was very sweet to us until Bill decided to stand for everyone getting the same pay for Sabbath tours (on the principal that this was how the band always did it prior to Ozzy's solo career). This was back in the 80's and into the 90's when he certainly still could, his health won't allow the rigors of touring anymore, but that is much more recent than when I was married to 2nd husband. Some of her emails to my husband after that were not quite so nice, to put it mildly.... Before she changed her tune, she did send us a really nice new baby basket full of goodies when my son was born. I use it to this day for my laundry basket....and that was over 27 years ago!

My thoughts on Samuel's nominees....Nice to see you in here, sorry you are having a tough week.
But I'm really glad you posted these! Samuel:
Deep Purple “Hey Joe” I do know
this one, and many of the covers of it.
It’s a great song and they do it justice in their own way. The Cardigans “Iron Man” Wow, a really different version of this
song. I like what they did with it! |

I believe you'll all be happy to know that my other half is getting his submissions ready, and is going to post them soon! In the meantime, I've thought of at least another two or three songs I like, but at this point I'll keep them for a future edition, or the playlist is going to explode . |

Love the Black Sabbath covers even though I had heard that cool Cardigans cover of Iron Man before, it's a favorite. Here is another one, but it doesn't qualify because both bands are in the Archives, but it's still a good one for those that are interested.
Ulver - "Solitude" And that Judas Priest cover of Fleetwood Mac's "Green Manalishi" is from my favorite Priest album...thanks for posting that one. Raff should enjoy this BOC rarity (I bet she's already heard it though): Blue Oyster Cult - "Betty Lou's Got a New Pair of Shoes" (Uh oh...I may have overloaded the postings for this thread

If it's Annie solo, then the song is eligible to be entered in the poll, since she's not in the database. And Mike, I definitely know that BOC cover! We have all of their albums, and they're always on heavy rotation here. Looking forward to their new album, which should be released in October.

I had forgot about the Slayer cover of Dissident Aggressor. It reminded me of this other JP cover...although I guess it technically isn't a cover:

I'm doing random listening now. Highlights up to now (out of about ten): Carol Tatum - Nothing else Matters, and Patti Smith - So You Want To Be a Rock'n Roll Star (the other Patti Smith one may be even better if I remember it correctly, but hasn't come up yet - that lady can do no wrong). Edit, few tracks further in: Tori Amos' Smells Like Teen Spirit is really great, except I know it already too well. Edited by Lewian - August 18 2020 at 17:29 |

I didn't realise a song was only eligible for this poll if it's NOT in the PA database.

The main purpose of these polls is to explore music that, while not in the PA database, might be of interest to the participants. For this particular poll, a song is eligible if: - the band or artist who released the original is on PA/the band or artist who did the cover is not; - neither the band or artist who released the original nor the band or artist who did the cover is on PA.- the band or artist who released the original is not on PA/the band or artist who did the cover is; As I said in my introductory post, if both original and cover band/artist are on PA, the song is not eligible.
