Interactive Poll #16 - Under Cover

Scott:  Ozzy “21^st Century Schizoid Man”  definitely shows who has better vocals.  Good cover though, and I do like Ozzy (not so much his wife), and it’s decidedly Ozzy style.  Rush “Not Fade Away”  Another classic of a bygone era…his voice is so freaking high!  Fun to hear this.  Judas Priest “The Green Manalishi”  I loved Peter Green’s Fleetwood Mac, good cover, but I prefer the original here.  Glenn Tipton “Paint It Black”  More metal taking on a classic rock song, one of my favourite RS songs.  Loved that Brian Jones era the best.  They do a good job, but the original is more subtle and ominous, so more in my wheelhouse.  Guns N Roses “Sympathy for the Devil”  Again, not my favourite band and I do think the original was so original and clever.  King’s X “Manic Depression”  Pretty good cover of that.  My late husband and his son both enjoyed King’s X together, and introduced me to them.  😊  Yngwie Malmsteen “Spanish Castle Magic”  This one is typical Yngwie style, lotsa lotsa notes, I prefer theKing’s X cover of the two.  Alanis Morissette “King of Pain”  I agree, I like songs that are totally stripped down like this.  And she gives it her own sound.  Quiet Riot “Cum  On Feel The Noize”  I remember Slade very well, from back in the day.  Followed by “Mama Weer All Crazee Now”  and Britny Fox with “Gudbuy T Jane”…I haven’t heard so much hard rock and heavy metal since my bus days. The Lovemongers “Battle of Evermore” Probably my favourite Zeppelin song, esp because of Sandy Denny’s appearance on it.  Interesting take on it.   I think my vote would go to King’s X of your selections at this point, anyway.  I quite enjoyed that.

Raff:  .  Metal Church “Highway Star”  Crazy fast with those metal vocals…still, I prefer the original.  Slayer “Dissident Aggressor”  Very heavy cover of a very heavy song. Metallica “Am I Evil”  More metal, well done.  Not really my thing (you’ve probably figured that out, I like some metal, but burn out on it after a point).  Riot “Born To Be Wild”  Yeah, these guys did have a rough ride.  Steppenwolf’s classic song, done with a higher voice and a bit faster. I kind of like my metal to have that heavy slow feel, more like Blue Cheer (which was actually a psych band, as is the way Steppenwolf began)  than pyrotechnics like this.  But that’s just me, sales tell a completely different story.  David Lee Roth “California Girls”  DLR at his hammiest.   Huge hit for the Beach Boys and for him.  He had quite the good sense of humour about himself, I think.
