Most likely, and most similar texturally, I think The Barbarian (I’ll have Collins’ china )

No clue...and that's a huge list....it has been said he was a jazz influenced drummer..so maybe Colosseum, one of the Crimson tracks,...but being a Traffic fan I'll say Glad. (I did listen to Musical Box....nothing sprang to mind)

Dear friends,
I have edited the poll putting the option "Allow multiple votes", so you can choose another answer. Please, dont choose a lot of answers but two or three answers in total and write them in the messages.

Amos Goldberg (professor of Genocide Studies at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem): Yes, it's genocide. It's so difficult and painful to admit it, but we can no longer avoid this conclusion.

OK, I add The Kettle then in order to bring us closer to the solution. The reason is that when I read The Kettle among the options I spontaneously thought "that's a cool association, makes sense". Still believe the true answer is Helter Skelter though.

Excellent, I don't know what a scouser is but I'll add that to my collection of "the Beatles sux" vocabulary. Probably the only time I will vote for a Beatles in a poll, I also chose The Kettle.

Total guess Led Zep. I think a lot of drummers heard what gonzo was doing and thought let's have some of that!

The answer is: The Weaver's Answer by Family.
You should know that I love Family. It is a group that is often forgotten, and prog lovers should reevaluate it. In Genesis, Phil Collins was inspired by Rob Townsend's aggressive drums for the rhythm of The Musical Box and Peter Gabriel shaped his singing on that of Roger Chapman, imitating his vibrato. "...only caught some of this lengthy back and forth. However it seems that Swede is under the impression that Anthony Phillips was involved in the writing of "The Musical Box" and "Fountain of Salmacis". Not so. The "Box" was written at the Maltings in Farnham when I joined the band, and the only layover from previous writing was the rhythm under the keyboard solo, which I believe was influenced by "The Weaver" by Family. "Salmacis" was entirely conceived at Tony Stratton-Smiths house in Crowborough at the sessions of writing for Nursery Cryme that had started at the Maltings."
But it is written even on Wikipedia!!! Gabriel, a big fan of The Who at the time, pushed for Rutherford to come up with a "ballsy, attacking" section in a similar style to their guitarist Pete Townshend. Gabriel incorporated themes of violence and sex into the lyrics.[25] Collins was inspired to play a rolling drum part during the middle section from hearing "The Weaver's Answer" by Family, and put it to the rhythm. "All of a sudden", speaking about "The Musical Box" at this point, "It's 'wahey we're off!'". |
