I had completely forget that one! that keyboard hitting, and wireframe bits kind of made me remember! cool...
He-Man's music rocks! I find this kind of music fascinating! ..together with the animations & story… Maybe I would have spared a vote for Skeletor's theme hehe ..well, maybe also a bit biased too , but love the sound of those sci-fi -ish, incidental sort-of synths.. and the superb animations & landscapes. |

^ A classic to be sure. A rather creepy one from a british kids show of the folk horror vein.
And the Armchair Thriller theme: And sorry if this classic was mentioned already: Edited by Logan - July 19 2020 at 21:52 |

Yep, but as said, Utopia can be a tough watch -- it gets so very dark at times. I have to be in the right mood to watch just about any TV show, but as Black Mirror is an anthology series, sometimes I have felt like returning to one episode over another (I have seen every episode and Bandersnatch multiple times). Some Black Mirror episodes I like more than others, but I like the philosophical/ethical/ moral questions, and the psychological and sociological elements, that the show raises throughout as well as the technological implications and speculations raised throughout the series. Some episodes are darker than others, and some more comedic. Some of it is more sci-fi than others. Many didn't like the first episode that involves the pig, but that was my first and is the one that hooked me. For Star Trek fans of course I recommend USS Callister. The one I have returned to the most is White Bear (I'm interested in issues of justice, and have argued with people who are stanch supporters of retributive justice). It's a clever anthology series, I think. I have been surprised that more people here are not really into it or have been talking about it, but I think most here are into lighter fare with a more cheerful outlook (think Yes, while I'm more like "No"), more Utopian than dystopian perhaps. Being something of a pessimist and having scepticism that can veer too far into cynicism, it tends to appeal. |

^^ Banana Splits! I saw them when very young.. loved the characters, the buggies and the song, but in between they gave this jungle, non-cartoon series that I really didn't understand at the time hehe.. but cool! I liked the first, 'politician'/pig episode of Black Mirror. Wow, that is sort-of "take something to its utter extreme".. The 'Stark Trek' (USS Callister) very good.. and terryfing.. it has this amazing software thing (I work on that, nothing vanguard though). The one I liked the most was that of 'brain downloading'.. that I think were 3 short stories.. there are many ethical implications there.. (is a simulation/recreation 'alive'? what is consciousness?). My youngest brother serves as a guide to me with the episodes.. he pointed to one that he had found hard.. I told him "No no.. skip that one" You know many years ago I coud see anything, whatever hard.. (in fact at one -universally I think- difficult time in youth it was the blacker the better) around 10 years ago or more I quitted that, and realized life is too hard as it is for making it harder/sadder, and wanting to see ugly things.. (and how they make'em today! so realistic) (existing other things to watch.. that are marvelously well crafted and beautiful) and found beauty and also teachings in things like we were commenting in other threads ('Pete's dragon (1977)' for ex., it has shiny and beautiful original music/songs and also teachings not only for kids I think..). Take "Verano Azul" for instance on this thread.. I have found myself returning to my dearest childhood without any trouble/taboo, shame or anything.. I'd like it if you could watch an episode.. so beautiful, many of them sad.. father-son themes.. love, friendship, adult stuff and mysteries of life seen through kids eyes.. But no, Black Mirror is a good one! Edited by Machinemessiah - July 20 2020 at 15:33 |

Black Mirror is part black comedy/ dramedy, but mostly I'd call it a sort of dystopian sci-fi (some episodes are not al all sci-fi) anthology series. Every episode is different, and it can be watched in any order. Some of it is quite light, some can very dark. If do get Netflix, then maybe read the synopsis before choosing which episode might intrigue you. Inside No. 9, which is only a half hour per episode, is a black comedy/dramedy anthology series that might be up your alley. It's a very mixed bag since it is an anthology series (think Twilight Zone etc.) and the two writers/ main performers have dealt with different genres. The 12 Day of Christine was heart-wrenching, A Quiet Night In was fun if a bit gory. Some are quite horrific, some are very funny, some combine both. It's much more comedy than Black Mirror and is by the same people who made The League of Gentlemen (more Brits will know that) and Psychoville. Some episodes I'd watch with my family and others I wouldn't. This is a very fun one, I thought (replete with iambic pentameter). https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x6mqtqf And yes, that's the same reason why Twin Peas appealed to me so much (it can be downright delightful), as well as something like Fargo (the TV series is brilliant). Anyway, there is so much good stuff out there to watch.and with so mnay streaming services it's much easier to see a plethora of shows. I was using Britbox for a while amonsgt others such as Netflix, Amazon Prime, one in Canada called Crave with HBO and Showtime.... Sometimes I feel like there's too much out there, and it becomes hard to choose one, and sometimes it'slike I can't find anything that I want to watch (other than the Newsand various documentary-type programs). Here's one that I might have thought to add as a TV theme. This was a particular favourite of mine from the series soundtrack by Vangelis, and played part in me getting into electronica: Growing up I loved Carl Sagan's Cosmos and loved watching the Neil deGrasse Tyson Cosmos series with my kids (especially with my son who is very science-oriented and prefers non-fiction). |

Ok and here's to you my last mini-reviews: - Land of the Lost: the beginning reminded me of the tv serie Hazard, with the brothers Bo and Luke, and made me regret that country music style !!! So, this already does not allow me to put it among the favorites. - Black Hand is from the New Trolls. I see that here we have gone beyond the rules and put in the thread the song of a progressive group - and in fact there are the typical changes of rhythm, the accelerations, then the pauses etc. even if this choral song has a flavor of the sixties. I didn't know this 5-episode miniseries, with Adolfo Celi ... but how did you find it? However, the song as an acronym is excellent and deserves the podium, however, I repeat, being from a prog group I shouldn't vote for it ... But ok, for this time I vote for it, certainly not because it's Italian but because I see that it only has two votes, and therefore for this time ok, I consider it an exception, and the proverb says that the exception confirms the rule. - Bojack Horseman: the beginning is terrible, with those electronic drones, but then the part with the horns is really remarkable, it could aspire to the podium. - Hawaii Five 0. The music could seem like that of an Italian spaghetti western or seventies film. Very free range, beautiful. I don't know if from the podium. - Leftovers is a classic minisuite, first with strings, then with the piano, perhaps three movements in total, and could be considered a prog song. The problem is that I don't see it as the theme song of a tv serie, it seems to me that its 7-minute format and its composition can be at best from a film soundtrack, not from a show, so I consider it out of competition, as if it were a film at a short film cinema festival. It is beautiful, of course, especially the first movement with the bows but it seems to me from another category. |

How did I find it? I was there at the time... 1972 was the year I first got into prog. I don't remember if I watched the series, but I definitely listened to the opening song (sigla) every time it was on. New Trolls, together with Delirium, were one of my very first prog bands.

And the winners are....
1) New Trolls: Black Hand. Very pleasing song, excellent composition. 2) BoJack's Theme. Did you notice that the phrasing on keyboards, almost math-rock, closely resembles that of Interview by Gentle Giant? 3) Cowboy Bebop: this is a guilty pleasure... very very very kitsch song! ---- 4) Sorry Christian, I was undecided with yours (Rote Erde) for the third place ... but in short, I can't always get you on the podium! 5) Boardwalk empire 6) Lucidity Gone... Jury Prize Winner for Best Out of Competition Film: The Leftovers.... But the real winner is:.................................................... Pedro!!! I voted for him ten times!

Delirium.... and then Fossati: Did you sing this song in the seventies? It has an infectious rhythm, which makes you want to sing and dance. "Io l'ho scoperta a 20 anni, nel 1990. e l'ho cantata per un anno" (secret message for Raff)
