Hello guys & gals,
I'll hopefully participate, but my deadline is approaching for my book translation. Anyway, I'll try to spare time for this round of the awesome Interactive Poll series. Did I say series? Perhaps I've already joined the ride. ![]() |

I'm back with some more suggestions! They are all from non-English TV shows, none of them very recent. Lorenzo is probably too young to remember them ![]() This one is by a band included on PA, New Trolls. The song - titled "Black Hand" - was released in 1972 only as a single, and appeared as the opening theme of a mini-series called Petrosino, about an Italian-American policeman who fought the Mafia in turn-of-the-20th-century New York: The next one is almost legendary. Though musically the song is not exactly my cup of tea, the TV based on one of my favourite book series - the cycle of the Tigers of Malaysia (I pirati della Malesia) by Emilio Salgari. If you love adventure fiction, these books (also written at the turn of the 20th century) are highly recommended. The TV series is named after the books' hero, the pirate prince Sandokan - interpreted by Kabir Bedi, a very charismatic Indian actor who also appeared in a James Bond movie: And then, last but not least, something not from Italy, but from Brazil - the theme song of the first Brazilian telenovela shown on Italian TV, back in the late 1970s. La schiava Isaura (Escrava Isaura) was based on a novel that was for the cause of the abolition of slavery in Brazil what Uncle Tom's Cabin was for the same cause in the US. The song, titled "Retirantes", was written by Brazilian singer Dorival Caymmi together with famous author Jorge Amado. This is the original version, with lyrics in some African language: |

Thanks, dude. I'll most probably spare the time for sharing stuff and listening to at least the nominations. If there happens to be more than 25 before me, that's OK too. I'll still listen to the nominations and place my votes. Love you all.

[QUOTE=Machinemessiah] Videos deleted for space.
Verano Azul, not what I expected! But seems like it goes well with the description
you gave, young people having fun adventures in a coastal town, I can certainly
relate to that. Capitan Futuro, reminds
me somewhat of the Speedracer cartoons, although not quite the same music of
course. Looks like it was a fun show for
kids. Robotech, another Speedracer-y
look to it, the music goes well with the theme of the show, a bit on the more
upbeat side, which I tend to not be as fond of.
Band of Brothers, was this a tv show they made from the film? The music is beautiful, much more in my
enjoyment zone. Lancelot Link, we had
that here in the US also….Totally forgot about this one! Sankuokai, very disco-y! did not expect that from the opening picture,
looks like it would have been fun to watch.
He-Man, thinking this is a film also?
Either way, very inventive and sounds to go well with the imagery you’ve
shown. |

Videos removed for space. Blackadder, pretty familiar with this. Fun! Toast
of London, a bit unsettling, but the dark humour is wonderful in the song. |

Having posted themes from the ubiquitous Mike Post, I now want to post something that may not be as well known, although should be. This show just ended with it's sixth and final season in January and was brilliant. One of my favorite animated shows all time---BoJack Horseman. Cool theme song by Patrick Carney of the Black Keys featuring his uncle Ralph on sax. Posting the full version of the theme song. It usually runs about a minute at the beginning of the show.
Patrick Carney (feat. Ralph Carney) "BoJack's Theme" BoJack Horseman (Netflix) And speaking of Mike Post, he's so everywhere that Pete Townshend even wrote a song called "Mike Post Theme". |

Logan - My favorite out of all of your great selections was the Utopia 2 theme. I love the tense sound of the music and the modern electronic feel that hints at avant-garde style. I'm not familiar with the series, but this music has got my interest going in checking it out. Already being a fan of Mogwai, I am already familiar and love the Les Revenants soundtrack, excellent choice also. I'm not that familiar with the Doctor Who series, though I know a lot of people who are really into it, the music was great featuring a slow build that I really like. Again, I love the Twin Peaks soundtrack, this selection is a bit more laidback than the previous posting, but still effective. Dekalog is another series I'm not familiar with, but the music is very poignant and lovely, almost reminiscent of "Pie Jesu" from Andrew Lloyd Weber's Requiem, and that's a great thing. The one that didn't quite resonate (yes I caught that earlier pun) so much was The Prisoner theme. But the Utopia 2 theme will be a contender for me if you choose it.

First impressions.. (I think I'll be editing this post.. if there are too many entries I'll maybe split it in two or three). Micky - never been a fan of the 'Sopranos'. Didn't know the music nor the intro. I liked it! 'Barney Miller' great vibe.. Good bass and sax, upbeat. 'Keeping up appearances'.. symphonic/orchestral stuff.. I'm much into that kind, extra points. Snicolette - Like 'em all. 60's and 70's things and music I love. Daktari wins extra points for the lion-mounting bit ![]() ![]() Raff - beautiful voice.. the first one beautiful and relaxing black & white vid. Great music. In the second is more prominent the voice. It reminds me of 'Nights in White satin', 'Simon and Garfunkel'.. that kind of stuff, that I know not 'firsthand'. Lewian - as always something interesting, obscure (for me!) and good looking cover art! It has reminiscences of a western, but with a mystery halo thrown in.. adding the miner plot, kind of an unusual mix. Will require more listens. Nogbad - 'Twin Peaks', not sure if I ever saw it.. I believe yes, but not sure if the same version that you guys. It reminded me of an extraordinary game, 'Thimbleweed Park' about solving a mystery in an ultra strange and bizarre town.. and the (superb) music drew from TP.. that low (guitar?) string.. superb! ![]() mathman - 'Rockford files' sort of cowboy stuff ...with great synthesizers! points. Like the guitar sound.. more points ...and the precussion. 'Hill Street Blues' more interesting synthesizers.. I like that! nice guitar too. 'Magnum PI' like that kind of stuff 70's - 80's ![]() The Anders - 'Matador' liked very much your presentation of the theme. I wonder why it has a Spanish name... I like very much those series ambiented in past times. Very sentimental, I like that. Good to know it! would like to watch it. When I read your presentation about this Danish provincial man I remembered that Netflix movie about an engineer, 'A Fortunate Man'.. I liked it (not many Netflix movies can say that), very well set in the time and liked the casting too (something I'm very picky about). jamesbaldwin - 'Happy Days' seems like a fun and upbringing series; I like that. 'The Jeffersons', yeah the piano perhaps a little too simple.. her voice doesn't suit me though. 'Monk theme song', yeah nice, has a swing to it, like it. Logan - 'Utopia 2', different, interesting, will require more listens upfront ![]() ![]() rushfan4: 'Big Bang Theory' like the series; the intro is funny, but not particularly fond of it. 'Home improvement' sort of 90's.. not my favorite decade, but nice flute. TCat: 'Perpetual Grace', dynamic song.. slightly country.. maybe a bit too popish. 'Resonate' perhaps a bit too singing-intensive at first; like the violin afterwards though, the guitar also. 'The Leftovers'.. fair voice, beautiful country singing. 'Boardwalk Empire' love that fiery guitar..! points. Meltdowner: dynamic, jazzy, orchestrated.. made me remember the Flintstones'one I posted later. I like it. Like that raw acoustic bass and the percussion.. with the added bronzes it resembles the Spider man intro that I loved. (I keep on the past :D ). Like it very much. Gentle and Giant: Wow.. very sad. Hard to listen for me because of that, though good music. Haven't seen the series nor have heard of it.. I'm gonna check it out. Edited by Machinemessiah - July 17 2020 at 10:44 |
