For this weeks installment of Lorenzo's Grill and Micky's Bar we flip the movie script and go to the small screen.

SO FRICKIN many one can choose from..

good luck.  No real rules on this. Can be a full song..  or just a snipet opening theme.

I probably have 10 I could post.. but won't.. in case some of my favs are favs of others.

So I"ll start with 3...

The Sopranos

Barney Miller

and my guilty pleasure...

Keeping Up Appearances (one of the funniest damn shows ever haha)

TV show theme music... like the last we did.. just not movies haha...

unless it is a real clunker of an idea...

which I hope it is not. It shouldn't be at least. There was some great music out there used as themes.

However if so... I've got another poll idea in the holster...

There are a ton of these....At first I was thinking of gems some might not remember, like "77 Sunset Strip," with its fingersnaps years ahead of "The Addams Family," (also another huge fave), or "The Mod Squad," for it's very 60's motif.  However, I decided on a different theme.  Animals.  These were all favourite tv shows of mine as a little girl.

First choice is this melancholy theme from "Lassie."

Alternates for fun are short and sweet but evocative theme from "My Friend, Flicka"

and from the delightfully 1960's "Daktari"

Great idea, Micky!  And much shorter to listen to, most likely, so having a lot may not be as time-consuming.  This goes from classics everyone may know that are phenomenal for so many reasons to forgotten (or perhaps should be forgotten) gems.  Looking forward to hearing what everyone else brings to the living room.

Indeed. Though I haven't watched TV for quite a few years, I did watch a lot of it when I was younger. Believe it or not, I learned to read through a TV programme for adults that was shown on the Italian TV in the 1960. I have selected a few theme songs from TV shows I used to like back in the day. This one, I believe, is relatively well-known:

Don McLean's "Vincent" became famous in Italy as the opening theme of Lungo il fiume e sull'acqua, a detective series based on the novel The Other Man by British author Francis Durbridge. Here is the full version of the song:

Irmin Schmidt is well known in the prog world as keyboarder of Can, and I've tried for ages to get him listed here. But currently, as far as I can see, I haven't succeeded yet, meaning that he qualifies for the poll. He actually has done truck loads of TV soundtracks, and the one I'm playing here isn't exactly an application for PA, but I love this melody to pieces. It's the title track of a TV series, a coal miner saga  set in the densely populated and a bit scruffy working class German Ruhr area (I lived there for 1 1/2 years and loved it for the people there), and the music perfectly combines the coal and steel atmosphere with the romanticism that many who call it their home feel for the region.

Hahaha, I've watched Daktari as a child but didn't have any memories of what the music was like. This is much more fun than I'd have thought! If you're not yet sure what you nominate... I'd pick that one.

So many great TV themes to choose from. Mike Post did a bunch of iconic TV themes throughout the decades. Quite a few charted as singles.

One of my favorites: The Rockford Files (first choice)

Hill Street Blues (feat. Larry Carlton)

Magnum PI (also feat. Larry Carlton)

And out of competition, just for fun, a cover of a well-known TV theme done in the style of another well-known song:

The theme from Matador (1978-81), composed by Bent Fabricius-Bjerre.

Matador is a TV series in 24 episodes about the life of the fictional Danish provincial town Korsbæk between 1929 and 1947. It is an institution in Denmark and highly regarded for its artistic level. More info can be found on Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Matador_(Danish_TV_series)

All episodes are introduced by the main theme which sometimes reappears within the episodes in different variations.

Here is the theme (as the introduction to the first episode which takes place in 1929):

Videos removed for space:  Because these are all short and sweet, and first impressions last, as they say, I may alter my usual approach and just first reply to these as they come up.  Hadn't heard The Sopranos theme (in a time of not a lot of tv watching for me)...but from what I know of the show, seems quite fitting.  Barney Miller, I know, and a great show it was, as well as Keeping Up Appearances!  Love when the caterpillar comes crawling out of the flower.  I will share a future Mr TJeans here, as I also keep a copy of The Complete Book of Etiquette by Amy Vanderbilt in my bathroom as well as this gem, where Mr TJeans meets Lumina, The Lamp Lady (sorry the photo is so large, but at least you will have no trouble reading the title.LOL

Video removed for space:  This one I like quite a lot and don’t know it.  There is a feeling of suspense in it, but also some lightness…perhaps to lessen the feeling of foreboding.

Three of my favorite theme of TV series.

1) HAPPY DAYS

2) THE JEFFERSONS THEME SONG

3) MONK THEME SONG (IT'S A JUNGLE OUT THERE, BY RANDY NEWMANN)

here the complete song:
