Hi,
To me, Nektar was done after the last song in RECYCLED. It was sad, and sometimes I think it was a farewell to the whole thing, or at least the band was exhausted from its massive two tours in the USA back to back ... one of them with Golden Earring I think it was, though I can't remember it that well. None of the material I heard after that was as great and valuable as anything before that song, and a almost all of the stuff in "Down To Earth" was already being played in concert for quite sometime. It still remains one of my favorite bands!

I only own three Nektar albums: A Tab in the Ocean, Remember the Future, and Recycled.
I liked them in patches. There were segments that were fantastic, but equally some of the music sounded dated and, at times, bombastic, with choirs and gongs that seemed to reflect all of the prog rock cliches that detractors hold up against the genre. I must admit that, working from home during lockdown, I have been playing these albums more often, and my appreciation and enjoyment of them has grown. I don't own Journey to the Centre of the Eye, but the posts on here have reminded me that I need to own it, so thanks everyone! I will be ordering it today (if I can get hold of it) |

^^ When you eventually manage to add Journey to the Centre of the Eye to your collection, you'll be the proud owner of four of Nektar's finest albums in my opinion.

Hi,
There is one thing that you get when you listen to SOUNDS LIKE THIS ... this is a band that can also do their material live on stage, and well, too. They were not a "studio" band. But all in all, I miss Roye as much as I do Edgar in TD ... you can't reproduce greatness and a driven desire to do work that is better than what is around you day and night. You have to appreciate that ... and their work has been excellent throughout their whole time. Time has changed, but my appreciation for their music has not waned any, although the "new" Nektar did not sit well with me, and I know it is related to the early material that I love so much. You can't replace a "girlfriend" that you loved so well ... so to speak!

^^ I thought Nektar were excellent both as a studio band and a live band. I've just been listening to Nektar's first two classic albums again. They sound every bit as good now as when I first heard them several years ago.

Just saw them live back before the lockdown in Cambridge, MA. They sounded great live! Supported them by buying a Remember the Future shirt. Awesome band.

Thanks Paul! £15 on Amazon, which is a bit more than I'd normally want to pay for a Nektar album, but, what the hell, I've decided I want it and it's ordered. I shall look forward to it dropping through the letterbox ![]() |

There's also a 5-CD box set of classic Nektar albums available which retails for between £25 and £30, which isn't too bad for five classic albums, considering they'd cost a lot more to buy individually.

Nektar are great. Imo, they are a band that not enough younger people know about these days. Next to thick as a brick remember the future might be the best whole album track.

Not imo. To be fair I haven't heard the whirlwind. Mei has grown on me a bit but that's about all I can say about it. Better than RTF? Nah.
