I like a lot of tv from around the world. Other than British and US shows, my next biggest country for shows is France. I have quite a few Scandinavian favourites, and right now I'm watching season two of an excellent Korean zombie drama called Kingdom. It would be harder for me if it wasn't so common to subtitle shows from around the world in English. Even as child, I found myself loving lots of subtitled, no English language films (the theatrical release of Das Boot, which is also a TV series that I have seen, and might be my choice for music for the TV one) is what first really got me interested in non-English language films.

Voting will be very hard for me, because most of the songs are not really my cup of teaWink. Unfortunately, those I liked out of the various videos posted here were not selected. Oh well, I'll think about it a bit longer, than make my choice.

For me, the Top Three are actually equals, since I am entering my favourite novelty piece, favourite “serious,” piece and one for what caused me the most pain (and only the primary selections of the contributors).  I am still sticking to my rule of not voting for something I was familiar with.   I’ve reprinted what I wrote the first time, but only for the primary selections of the Top 3, and expounded, or not.

Congratulations to all for this exhaustive playlist Clap, I don't think I missed anything (sometimes to my great chagrin)  LOL

1.  Fave Novelty Piece:  Logan ~ The Shaggs.  Definitely wonderful comedic act.  Well, I thought they were, until I looked them up.  I have no idea how on earth I missed them prior to this.  But they win in this category for me.

2.  Fave Serious Piece:  Shadowyzard:  Eyüp Hamiş - Gel Gör Beni  Probably no surprise to anyone here.  I just love Turkish and other Middle Eastern music, so this was a strong contender for being a winner from the get-go, since I’m using songs I like in this , (for whatever reason) with which I was previously unfamiliar.

3.  Most Painful Piece:  I prophesy disaster ~ The Osmonds….I just can’t…..Too squeaky-clean for me, even though my own entrant is The Monkees.  And the beginning is so annoying, I had trouble getting past it to listen to the rest more than once.  But suffering is good for the soul, so someone said.

going with...

the clear #1  Lana Del Rey.. musically ehh.. but good god almighty.. what a voice. Instantly sucked me in yesterday even while distracted with trolling.. and loved even more with a more focused listen this morning.

the WFT #2 selection.. that Osmond song.. never heard it.. and yeah it gets the vote for shear slobknockery and blindsiding you from right fleld with a 2x4. Did not expect to hear that when i turned my head and hit play..

and a big drop off from there but this one i enjoyed more than the rest.. and bumped the Shaggs for the 3rd vote

#3 Lena d'Água & Atlântida

Now as your choice is Madonna, gotta say that’s a pretty good song, and I like some others of hers, as noted.  If I had room for 3 serious, she would be a contender, since I didn’t know this one. Also, she was the very first act who used our buses when we got into the business.  We started in Dec 1986 and carried her, Duran Duran and Berlin (not on the same tour, but booked them all in our first month).

Clap did you get a chance to meet her... I would assume by that point in her career she'd be doing the chartered jet thing .. though wait.... times flies.. 86?  She was just breaking into the stratosphere about then wasn't she.
Never did meet Madonna or Duran Duran, but met Berlin, as they were "locals," at the time (LA).  We mostly dealt with tour managers, but I did get to meet many others when they came through whichever town we were living in at the time (LA to Denver to Sonoma County to Nashville).  And also had many brushes with fame (or hanging out with fame, mostly the Bill Ward set) when our offices were in The Village Recorder and over at the Hormel Estate.  Bill Ward actually played "drums," on a demo we did with Jano Brindisi (Poll #4), beatbox style, since it's an acoustic piece, "All My Heroes."  Smile  We'd had no idea what he'd do, and he was the only drummer I knew at the time that I felt comfortable asking.  Plus, he thought it was funny to play on this one.

OK, here are my choices:

Madonna - Ray of Light - Not my favourite song by her, but a very nice piece of electronic dance music with a great video and an excellent vocal performance.

Eyüp Hami – Gel Gör Beni - A haunting piece of Middle Eastern music, very much in tune with my tastes.

CCCP & Amanda Lear - Very intriguing cover of a well-known (at least for us Italians) song. Amanda Lear is a legend, and I've always had a lot of time for her.

The Lana Del Rey song is an interesting case. I'd usually be all over an atmospheric song by a lady with a low-pitched voice, but there's something about her that feels contrived - as if she was more of a celebrity than a bona fide musician. I don't know if I'm making any senseWink.

"Take on Me" and "My Lips Are Sealed" are both familiar material - nothing that really appeals to my taste, but not repulsive either. For some odd reason, I find the Sigue Sigue Sputnik more appealing, though on a rational level I know it's awfulLOL.

Makes perfect sense to me, I like my fair share of soprano females singer/songwriters, but a deeper voice really captures my attention (Mary Fahl).  After looking up some of her story, I like her more and more, so am going to search out some more of her music.  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lana_Del_Rey

The RAH Band - Clouds Across the Moon: - My favourite song by The RAH Band, although in all honesty, that's the only song of theirs I know of. Smile

Madonna - Ray of Light: - The title track from my favourite Madonna album.

A-ha - Take on Me: - My favourite A-ha song and it's a great video too. In fact, it's memorable for being the very first video (out of 275,000) that was ever uploaded to my now long-defunct music site: You Tube Episodes & Music. Heart

Haven[t finalised my thinking, but as some notes of some that stood out:

Eyüp Hamiş - Gel Gör Beni. I loved that, and just because I'm not religious doesn't make any religious music a guilty pleasure. I enjoy choirs, nasheeds, chanting of different kinds. I love a lot of music inspired by religion even if I don't support certain (more orthodox generally) religious attitudes or practices (especially when it comes to less tolerant and more close-minded adherents).

The Monkees - Shades of Gray. The song that inspired 50 Shades of Gray. I'm not monkeying around when I say that I really enjoy that.

Would it be too much if we did one in tandem, you with TV (since you mentioned Sopranos) and me with film? I know the one at a time idea, but I would like that for this. Good idea, and then both do soundtracks even if not at the same time. I am inferring that you would want to do the TV one? Anyway, I would happily stick to film. For the TV one, this for me perhaps:

now that is interesting...  TV show songs... or TV show song intros...

the Sopranos one is great.. everytime Raff and I drive up to NYC to see John and Dave i can not do the NJ Pkwy.. by Newark Airport and not have the Sopranos intro clip and song playing in my head.

however greatest TV show intro ever..  hah.. an absolute no doubter

Yeah, the intro there, as in many, is the main TV show theme music.

^ That's fun, I've liked this one since I was a child:

My God, my head is spinning after reading all of this thread that jumps from one thing to another and now we are posting soundtracks already.   Wacko  This could be triggering if you've ever had a concussion.

Anyway, my top three are based on my favorites from the poll that are the final picks for the posters.  If you want to see my thoughts about the embarrassing ones, see my previous post somewhere buried in this thread (pg 15 I think).

1. Lana del Ray - Video Games.  This was the biggest surprise for me with the depth of this song.  Beautiful.  Since I already knew The Osmonds track, it wasn't a surprise.
2.  The Shags - Philosophy of the World.  Yes it's kooky, but it is also a pan-head delight.
3.  Weird Al - White and Nerdy.  Mr. Yankovic is always a winner for me.  Not only is he a brilliant humorist, but he's an amazing musician and so is his band.  Is Rick Derringer (Rock n Roll Hootchie Koo) still in his band?

I would have put System of a Down on my list for which one was available for voting, but I felt Squirrel Nut Zippers applied to the poll better this time.  No doubt I will feature them again somewhere down the line.  They deserve to be recognized in this group of music lovers.  Thanks for the acknowledgement Raffi, I hope you get a chance to explore the band, I don't think you'll be disappointed.
