@Psychedelic Paul: OK, so I'm assuming now that you will not take part. If you change your mind once more, please give me a title in Latin letters that I can copy and paste in the poll.

If Paul decides to participate, the English translated title of that Demis Roussos is, as he said, "I Remember", but if you also want the Greek word in the Latin alphabet, google translate shows it as "Thymamai", so you might put it as Demis Roussos - Thymamai (I Remember).
EDIT: By the way, some might have noticed, and probably no one cared, that I changed my youtube video embed (exact same music) thinking that some seeing Serge Gainsbourg walking and smoking around Paris might find the images distracting -- other than concert videos, mostly, and various music videos actually, I play music in the background, including off youtube, as I do other things, like most I expect. If this is distracting at all, for some it might be in a preferable way. Not including my own choice, of course, I already have a top three, or between four, of those already listed that I'm reasonably confident with. I hope we do get some more participants. I regret missing a few of these interactive polls (been off-site), as I had a number of potential choices lined up to go. Just three more to go, or two more if Paul opts to play and in-time, for a full poll option house. Good going even if no one else participates in the nominations process. Of course the nominations bit is the easy part for participants, it's the listening to/ checking out everyone else's choices and choosing three from those that can take some time and patience, which I would think a significant reason why more of the forum membership don't participate (and I guess it can be disheartening or intimidating thinking no one, or hardly anyone might like your choice). Not sure what percentage of regular forum users have participated in this series so far, but I would expect that it's significantly repeat "customers". I'd like to host one of these down the road with my own special conditions (temporal conditions, say all 60s, and/or all instrumental, or...). Edited by Logan - June 11 2020 at 08:12 |

4 pages already.. and thought my trainwreck of a week was chaotic and bloody... I swear I am going to spring for a room for those two... and yes.. videotape and post it.
if you stay to form.. Saturday morning has been been the window has closed but we haven't yet had all the slots claimed. To be honest I would have thought the free form style would have got more suggestions and participation but seeing is believing with a theme based... more pre-voting pages of .. discussion.. and I think already we have more actual choices than we have in any other poll. You did pick a winner though.. and see you and I are on the same coin.. me just on the other half for what I was thinking for a theme. If Lorenzo has no problem with it I'd like to do the next to complement what you are doing this week. and obviously I won't vote until I've heard them all.. but it will mighty hard to beat #1 of the options posted so far

I love that existential angst cat. :) I also like to be feline groovy (not quite Simon and Garfunkel). I liked the historical aspect of that Serge Gainsbourg video, I love Paris, and I like the cool cachet of it all. It evokes another time and place. I tend to enjoy such slices of life. I have changed the video back as I certainly had liked it but had second-guessed myself and I too often do misjudge the expectations and reactions of others. Edited by Logan - June 11 2020 at 22:24 |

Here are my notes so far, going to go back and listen to a few again.
Knew Nena and Cat Stevens, knew of and may have heard before, The Bothy Band, Eartha Kitt & Charo Rokia
Traore - Tuit Tuit Nice modern African music with
also tribal touches. Very enjoyable. Contender for Top 3 Dimash
Kudaibergen & Igor Krutoy - Olimpico (Ogni Pietra) Woah, there were some high notes there! Very dramatic, esp listening with no video Listening some more The
Bothy Band - Fionnghuala Really fun,
made me think of GG with the dissonance.
Love the call and response stuff
that you hear in so much Celtic (and Breton) music. Listening some more Pino
Daniele - Che te ne fotte Nice mellow jazzy vibe here. Wagakki
Band - Senbonzakura Lots of young energy there. Love how they used traditional instruments to
create a rock sound (I’ve heard this a lot more with Middle Eastern, so fun to
hear a Japanese twist). Costuming, esp lead singer, just gorgeous and
also liked how they blended that traditional costuming into modern clothing) Don’t like the music as much as the idea and
the look, however. Héroes
del Silencio - Entre Dos Tierras Enjoyed
the rock, it was perhaps a bit longer than needed for video purposes? Good energetic, straight-ahead rock. Connie
Dover - Ubi Caritas My choice,
so no comments now, excluding voting for my own. P-Model
- The Great Brain Kind of
quirky, punky. Nationalteatern
- Barn av vår tid Like the
sound and the tempo changes. Kind of
reminiscent of some alt rock types, but also proggy with the changes, like the
70’s. Maybe? Nena -
99 Luftballons Too familiar with this
one, sorry! Serge
Gainsbourg - Cargo Culte Enjoyable for
the sadness and hopelessness with the twinges of the guitar and percussion punctuating
it all., and then the heavenly chorus. So
very French! Another contender for Top
3. Eartha
Kitt - C'est Si Bon So fun!
Not sure if I’ve heard this one before, but I have certainly heard other
songs of hers. Strong contendress for Top
3. Värttinä
- Seelinnikoi LOVE this band,
too. So fun, love the dissonance and the
folkiness. Another possible Top 3. The Boy
& Despoinis Trixromi: Glykeia Mou Agapi Tragic
feeling, whatever she is singing about. Listening some more Cat
Stevens - O'Caritas Too familiar with
this, also, but it’s quite enjoyable. FFN -
Chemarea
Sounded 70’s to me again, interesting combination of sounds and vocals,
experimenting with new ideas of the time?
Stand Up era Tull-ish and not just because of
the flute, thinking the production takes me there. Charo -
La Cucaracha Growing up in California,
definitely know both of these songs that she did and probably even saw her do
this show on TV, back in the day. Lotsa
energy and she can actually play the guitar.
I always liked her sense of humour about herself. |

You're already at it... chances are we don't have more contributions, so let the voting begin! (I know it actually already has begun. )

Some nice contributions here. Let me be a bit vocal about it this time, but not in my native language. Rokia Traore - Tuit Tuit: The beautiful side of Africa. Not in my top three here, but not far below. Dimash Kudaibergen & Igor Krutoy - Olimpico: Vocal prowess in a setting strongly reminiscent of a Eurovision Song Contest, presumably for make benefit glorious nation of Kazakhstan. A powerful voice with a very wide range, but not exactly my cup of tea. The Bothy Band - Fionnghuala: Sorry, no comment. My own contribution to this thread. Pino Daniele - Che te ne fotte: Jazzy, nice to hear at the right moment, but it does not give me goosebumps. Wagakki Band - Senbonzakura: A nice one: I like this blend of powerful rock with shamisen and bamboo flute. Héroes del Silencio - Entre Dos Tierras: Another rocker; the music is allright, but I did not like the vid. Connie Dover - Ubi Caritas: A nice resting point with sacral and Celtic elements after the previous songs. P-Model - The Great Brain: My #3 here. The first 20 seconds were an OMG experience, but it has quite a lot of time signature changes and it made me think of KoenjiHyakkei. Nationalteatern - Barn av vår tid: Research reveals that this one dates from 1978, but it sounds rather retro, almost an attempt to make early prog. Nena - 99 Luftballons: Hit the top of the charts here back in 1983. Not easy to forget, but a refreshing listen after all these years. Serge Gainsbourg - Cargo Culte: My #1 from this list. I love the vibe and the choir. Eartha Kitt - C'est Si Bon: I know the name of this lady from the days when she jumped the disco bandwagon at an overripe age. A good chansonnière, the more given the fact that she's American. Värttinä - Seelinnikoi: My #2 here. Very uplifting. They remind me of... No, I don't want to go ahead to one of my future contribution, who also had a song in Finnish. The Boy & Despoinis Trichromi: Glykeia Mou Agapi: I expected something more hyperglycaemic (sounds Greek, I know), so I am not disappointed. Maybe the title (something like "My Sweet Love" if my Greek does not fail me) invoked this suggestion. Cat Stevens - O'Caritas: A surprise to hear him sing in Latin (I expected Greek, but why?), but not one of the man's best efforts. FFN - Chemarea: An increasingly interesting listen as this track evolves. Charo - La Cucaracha: A well-known classic which lacks the potential to dethrone Haken. This time the songs were generally quite short, which makes the listening and voting process easier and faster.
On the other hand, I enjoyed most of the songs, so choosing is not easy. My instant winner is Connie Dover - Ubi Caritas. Second one is, well... Värttinä - Seelinnikoi is very uplifting, so I choose this. Very tasty vocals. Third, well... ummm... ahh... so hard. I think Rokia Traore - Tuit Tuit is better musically, especially its instrumental passages in the second half is like prog rock, but I'll vote for Wagakki Band - Senbonzakura, as it is more fun and fits my mood. Another day I might have voted for Tuit Tuit. As I said, it was really a hard one for me... |

Psst, I could only vote for once and it is blocked. My vote went to Wagakki Band - Senbonzakura, even though it was my 3rd pick.
