OK, here we are for the fifth issue of Lorenzo's wonderful interactive poll idea.
This time it comes with a theme, and this is "This sounds Greek to me". Meaning that the rule is, propose something that
1) isn't listed on PA,
2) has some singing,
3) is not in English, and
4) is not in your native language.
That shouldn't be too difficult because there are lots and lots and lots of languages... however even my own collection is so strongly dominated by English and then German that I had to look around a bit. I hope it'll be fun and you have something good to show. (Obviously English native speakers have a bit of an advantage here because for them only one language is excluded, but as there are so many languages, this shouldn't make much of a difference, or does it?)

PS: mathman made the valuable point that the following should also be included in the opening posting: General rules: Choose a song you enjoy and want to share with others. Don't vote until nominations are deemed final by OP and you have listened to all songs posted, and then vote for your favorite 3 songs, but not your own.

Here's my entry (I didn't go for something Italian, sorry Lorenzo, it doesn't sound Greek enough to me; actually this song is called Tuit Tuit, not Tui Tuit as indicated in the video):


PS: Fantasy languages are allowed (but Magma isn't Wink).

Okay, here comes one of my favourites. The singer is the vocal prodigy Dimash, from Kazakhstan. 

The composer is Igor Krutoy from Russia and the song is in Italian.

Also, it should be considered that this part is from a very long concert, longer than 2 hours (2 hours and 40 minutes or something, as far as I remember). Dimash sings from pop to ethnic, jazz to classical throughout.

@Lewian: The composer's surname is "Krutoy". Not a big deal, but better if corrected. Smile

I wrote the full name -Dimash Kudaibergen & Igor Krutoy - Olimpico (Ogni Pietra)- for you to copy-paste easily, but something went wrong while posting. When I reposted, I forgot to include that part. Embarrassed

This brings back amazing memories for me.  During my time in Italy, I had a friend from Palermo recommend Pino Daniele to me as his excellent album "Vai mò"  had just been released.  Daniele is an amazing singer with impeccable timing, a knack for crossing all genres, and a perfect voice.  I had a hard time choosing which song to post off of this album as every song is great, but I went with the opening track "Che te ne fotte" as it is quite funky and very likeable instantly.  Yes, I understand Italian, but he sings with a deep Neapolitan dialect which I don't understand, yet this only proves that excellent music transcends all language barriers.  Enjoy!

Wagakki Band - Senbonzakura



I'm Japanese-American. I studied some in college, but outside of some words and phrases, my comprehension is limited. Probably good for this song as I read a translation and it's a bit dark. The title means "A Thousand Cherry Trees" and it's a cover of a song that was originally sung by Vocaloid (voice synthesizer software). The band mixes traditional Japanese instruments with rock instrumentation. The traditional instruments are shakuhachi (bamboo flute), koto, shamisen, and Japanese percussion.

It's a great song! It's not on PA and it's neither in English nor Polish. Hopefully it counts. BTW, I'm not a huge Dimash fan. I think the type of music he does is a huge waste of talent. I wish he would do some Iron Maiden type stuff.

I am admittedly not really a fan of music with non-English lyrics mainly due to my own linguistic limitations.  This is a "me" problem not a "them" problem.  I've found a few prog bands over the years like Nemo and Cast that I do like quite a bit and from time to time I do listen to the some of the better know Italian prog bands although none of them are really the classics for me like the English singing bands.  Anyhow, I suppose I will have a bit of fun with y'all and suggest this classic pop hit from my youth that I would sometime hear the English version and sometime the German version.  I don't expect too many votes for it here on this site, but my library of non-prog, non-English music is extremely limited and this is what came to mind for me.  LOL

I was shocked to find out what a large percentage of my own (non prog) collection is either instrumental or English or German. And I'm not even much interested in lyrics normally (which of course makes it easier to appreciate "Greek" stuff), and I see myself as quite internationally oriented, living in Italy and having lived in the UK and Switzerland apart from my native Germany. Anyway, you're still welcome to contribute if you come up with an idea, and of course to vote!
