well yeah... I mean it is really a question if they are or not...

This is funny because someone added Beastie Boys to MMA (MetalMusicArchives) and i was like OMG, really?

Turns out they have a couple hardcore punk EPs which qualifies them.

This all goes back to the age old question what is prog and what is progressive in a general sense.

I actually love the Beastie Boys. Have all their albums. Blast the bass and beats.

Never considered them progressive, just very clever and artistic.

What do you consider progressive about them?

As far as I can tell the only full instrumental album they put out was "the in sound from way out!" which is indeed a compilation.

And Red Hot Chili Peppers. They blended rock and rap, too, no?

The person who posted this is bringing up a point that probably should not be dismissed so lightly. Is it possible for Prog to incorporate rap?

Ok, I see there is also the mix up but that didn't get very good reviews apparently.

Imo, RHCP were probably the first band to do so.

Anyway, I say it is possible and it's likely it has been done to some degree or another.

I would tend to agree. Certainly artists have blended Prog and funk. For example, Jazz-rock fusion. I think it could be something along those lines. It is a progressive thing to do, but it’s not Starship Trooper.

Well, if we want to be a bit lazy in our definition of prog and rap we can say that Rush already did it with the title track to roll the bones. Wink

Well that depends, what are your feelings on Roll The Bones by Rush?
Porg for short. My love of music doesn't end with prog! Feel free to discuss all sorts of music with me. Odds are I'll give it a chance if I haven't already! :)
