yeah.. I should have gone with that one.. if I was interested in racking up the votes. It was the highpoint of the album.  She has quite the career and discography....and I have barely scratched the surface of it myself. Perhaps if Guigo were still around the forums he could illuminate her better than I could.

Did you know this one? To understand the humour here, you need to know about djent music. I hate that crap, and want it out of progressive metal more than anything else; it is my biggest wish regarding music. Djent guitarists generally use many-stringed electric guitars. 8-strings is quite common, for instance.

nah.. those just get no votes LOL  Short of complete chaos and there was enough of it it here.. I had to cut off submissions at some point and get to voting.  Raff should start one next Saturday or so and take admsssions.

I usually try to vote for bands or songs I haven't heard before too, but that doesn't completely rule them out.  The one I'm going to pick next is an odd one, but performed by a fairly well known band, and track that I am sure not many have heard.  I'm interested to see what everyone thinks of it.
 
In the meantime, here is another song from Big Head Todd and the Monsters that more closely resembles their style for those that are interested. 
 

I like that and if this one was more true to their style I really liked it. Very laid back and chill .. and yeah.. might have been a better choice for the poll. I vaguely remember hearing of the group..the song you picked was the only one i could have named by the group.  I was a in very bad place in my life when I guess they were popular and don't remember much new music wise since I was often waking up in unknown beds and occasionally dumpsters with Billie Holiday songs still ringing in my ears but few precious memories of how i arrived there.

OK let's see...
8) Big Head Todd and the Monsters - Iconic stuff really. Maybe heard a bit too much of this kind of thing in my life already.
7) Time Machine - I understand how they get everyone in a good mood there. Maybe a bit too lyrics oriented (and the problem isn't that it's Russian)
6) Planxty - There may be days on which I'd vote for this... love much of this kind of stuff and it's well done, but today I'm not in the mood for it.
5) Tania Maria - The poll was up to a good start with this one, love the piano in particular! It's also groovy. The composition eventually doesn't quite cut the mustard (of course you can say that shouldn't matter for this kind of music - but then there's other all too cool stuff).
4) Thunderpussy - Yeah, this is how rock music should be played! Misses top 3 narrowly because the singer at the end demands a bit too much of herself.
3) Enter the Haggis - I had this on first position in the first go. It makes it almost too easy for me to like it, sharp instrumental with folk elements and original instrumentation, but the first two seem to have more hidden secrets.
2) New York Stories - Incredibly full sound for youtube, I almost sensed them playing around me. Wasn't quite sure where to rank them at first try, but after I had gone through everything once or twice and this came up again, it was a clear vote in.
1) Seckou Keita - Yes I vote for Snicolette's one again! Actually didn't think it'd be first three on first go, but there I listened too superficially also having my nose in some other stuff, and it couldn't draw me out. But when I took the time to concentrate on it, oh how it hit home!

Time machine - Conversation on the train ----Time machine play popular folk music that could resemble Italy's Romagna ballroom dancing. Everything has a spontaneous and amateurish sound, which in Italy I could hear at a village festival while I drink beer and eat pork chops. It amused me, for heaven's sake, but it doesn't get to the top 3.

Sort Sol - Daughter of Sad (1991) is an electric ballad, with a beautiful warm voice, which alternates atmospheric moments with hard rock passages with distorted, almost cacophonic guitars. It certainly affects the listener.

Big Head Todd and the Monsters - Boom Boom Boom is a blues classic, which I first heard sung by Bruce Springsteen. I'm not excited about this version. I like the guitar solo.


New York Stories - Dolly's Ditty is a rockblues instrumental piece, almost a jam, with a nice trumpet solo. Good music, this is not discussed. But... is it in my top 3?

By the way, I recently discovered that their singer, guitarist and master mind Stephen Fellows has put out a solo album on bandcamp early 2020, 25 years after the last album of the Comsats, and it is awesome!)
