I included Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden & Judas Priest in the poll even though they're primarily Heavy Metal bands, because I don't think their fans would forgive me if I'd left them out of the poll.

yeah, again too many great ones. I'll vote a favorite who does not get much votes in the end.

With Led Zeppelin in the Poll - don't have to read the other, no one would come close anyway.

I moved this from Prog Polls to General Music Discussions because it does not focus on British Progressive Hard Rock (like ones that would be found in our Heavy Prog category).
I didn't sit this one out, as I love Cream, and actually have wanted it in PA, but am not getting into that again. I would have liked to see Gun, Black Widow, and Atomic Rooster included amongst others, and likely would have given one of those my vote. |

I'm sorry I couldn't include Atomic Rooster, Black Widow or Gun as I'd already used up all 25 poll options and I knew I'd have to leave some important bands out of the poll. I could swap Atomic Rooster for the Baker Gurvitz Army though, and Black Widow for Budgie.

I knew this poll would be relocated. It was interesting to see how long it would stay in the prog section though.

I find you changing the poll options infuriating. Are you sucking up to the people who may not be pleased with your options? Because this is not how it works. The displeased ones can start their own poll (it rarely happens). So please leave the polls like they are. And you take the amazing Budgie out? Now that was a no-brainer...

Almost all worthy contestants. I'll sit this one out. I simply refuse to choose between The Who, Black Sabbath, and Iron Maiden.

^^^^^ I wouldn't suggest it. Gotta have Budgie, and Baker Gurvitz Army are great.
I don't usually use an "other' option, but say "vote for your favourite of the listed choices, and mention that in a post, but please also mention any other favourites". Of course when the question is "Who's Your Favourite Classic British Hard Rock Band?" without an "of these" addendum, and it's not one of the options available then it might be seen as wrong to vote for any of the options. I would have removed Def Leppard and Bad Company as neither have I thought of as remotely progressive hard rock, but maybe I know neither well enough. Nor Samson either... That said, when I do polls I tend to focus on my favourites, which may not be others. And if you weren't big enough on Gun, Atomic Rooster, or Black Widow to include them, well it's your poll and I think better polls tend to reflect the most on the OP's taste. I would rather people stick more to ones they like and love when making polls (also helpful in discussion about the acts if the OP knows and cares about all of the choices). I personally never care about poll results, but I do discover new-to-me ones thank to my polls and other people's polls quite often. If my poll reflects my tastes then I'm more likely to hear about related ones that I will enjoy. Edited by Logan - October 23 2019 at 13:23 |

Do you REALLY think so? Why would a -for instance- Judas Priest band never forgive you because you didn't include them on a "classic hard rock" poll? I guess none would do that, conversely some might get offended and shout: "Judas Priest is METAAAAAL!" ![]() Nice list, yet for example I would add The Rolling Stones, instead of Samson or Saxon. Not only TRS are more popular, but also they are more "classic" and "rock", as your title suggests. I'll go with Deep Purple. ![]() Edited by Odvin Draoi - October 23 2019 at 13:23 |

that's what I initially thought but then saw Black Sabbath and decided that, what I like by them - Paranoid, Iron Man, Sabbath Bloody Sabbath - , I like more than anything by Led Zep

Good idea! I'll swap Samson for The Rolling Stones. ![]() It was a case of trying to please everyone at once by including the three Heavy Metal bands, Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden & Judas Priest.

I am a big classic hard rock fan, and there are so many favourites in this poll that I find it hard to choose one. However, I went for Deep Purple, who to me are the quintessential HR band (even more so than Led Zeppelin). While I am OK with Judas Priest and Black Sabbath being included here on account of their early albums, I wouldn't have included any of the NWOBHM bands (Iron Maiden, Def Leppard, Saxon and Samson). If you include those, I believe Motorhead should be mentioned too. And, if Hawkwind are included, High Tide should as well. Their debut album Sea Shanties is heavier than most of Hawkwind's output.

It is okay to include them. It would be perfectly reasonable to omit "classic", though. As heavy metal is more adventuresome and too odd to be "classic" in the rock genre. As I said, this is not a big deal as heavy metal emerged out of rock and use too many rock elements, with twists. I just made a realistic humour of some probable prospective reactions you may get from JP fans.

It's always tricky deciding who to include and who to leave out in these artist polls, especially when using all 25 available options. I could include Motorhead, but then I'd have to delete another band from the poll to create an empty slot for Motorhead.

Many greats there.Going for Nazareth who will probably only get my vote.
Love tons of their music, seen them many times.Always great. Still going strong with only original member left. One for an underdog.

I always remember the Nazareth song "This Flight Tonight" after hearing it on Top of the Pops many years ago.
