This 2-CD compilation album is a good introduction to the band.

I generally don't like Kayak compilations because they 'focus' on the radio friendly stuff. ie Wintertime is a good song but not reflective of their early seventies output.

There's also a Focus compilation that focuses on the radio friendly stuff. Tongue

If that last option is meant to be "other", that's what I chose - and it's PESTILENCE!

Most likely Focus will win, so I voted for Golden Earring. If SBB was in this poll, my vote would go for them.

SBB is Polish I'd always thought, unless SBB is being used as initialism for something else.

Trace, which isn't on the list.

Shocking Blue are a Psychedelic Rock band and Psychedelic Rock is listed as one of the many sub-genres of Prog-Rock on the main page of Prog Archives. Smile

I included The Cats on the grounds that they're a Psychedelic Pop band, although admittedly, it might be a bit of a stretch to call them "Prog-related" Wink

The Cats are Palingpop, not quite a subgenre, but rather a geographical indication, my small country's counterpart of RPI1: They come from Volendam, a picturesque fishermen's village.

They are about as proggy as The Cats, anyway… Wink

1) On the other hand, Krautrock, though it seems geographical, may be regarded as a subgenre.

There was underground Dutch band Kracq with very blurred/lo-fi sound.
Their only 1978 album Circumvision stuck in my head.
This style is really intriguing, has all shades of grayness and brings to mind French Ocarinah and generally "French style" prog a bit.

Day in Day Out
(0:45 piano melody brings to mind some melody from Anglarard or Morte Macabre)

Agreed.  But I am of an extremely literalist bent, and the poll asked for "Favorite Dutch Band".  Equally, I could have gone the other way and cited the Willem Breuker Kollektief, which was one of my favorite jazz bands.
