Well with ELP you can't pick any of their first six albums as 'unconventional' favourite choices I believe. However Works is another story so TCat is on the money with those. Even many ELP fans didn't like those albums and it was a major reason for the band going downhill in popularity so quickly (that and the massively expensive orchestral tour plus punk was a perfect storm) For me probably Kansas - Somewhere To Elsewhere is the obvious one. King Crimson is an 'almost' as Power To Believe is my second favourite but its still a long way behind the mighty Red. Genesis have made so many great albums but a lot of people write them off after Wind and Wuthering. However And Then There Were Three is one of my favourites by them although it still only gets 3rd spot after Trick and Foxtrot. Dream Theater - A Change of Seasons . I love the title track (my favourite prog metal track) and the tribute medley stuff hits the spot nicely! According to this site though it was 'fan club/promo' release which surprises me. Can I count it??! |

I can also add:
Rush - Test For Echo Black Sabbath - Born Again (as long as it is the remastered version)

Rajaz is the only Camel album that can be compared to the first four. By coincidence I've listened to it this morning.

I like Test for Echo as well. as for Born Again, it's my least favorite BS album, I rarely listen to it. I enjoy the Iommi & Hughes collaboration on Seventh Star as well as their later albums.

These would be among my favourites by these artists, and are not generally considered to be among their best works.
And then there were three - Genesis 90125 - Yes Trilogy - ELP PXR5 - Hawkwind Still Life - VDGG Caress of Steel - Rush Edited by Blacksword - June 19 2019 at 05:12 |

I love the desert vibe to it, Its about on par with Moonmadness for me. I think a nod and a wink is also quite good. Haven’t listened to the other 90s albums from them. |

I would argue that Trilogy is ELPs best, or at least it's level with BSS.

Jethro Tull "Stand Up"
Nektar "Recycled" Deep Purple "Come and Taste the Band" King Crimson "Lizard" YES "Tales From Topographic Oceans" There are a lot more, but these five are probably the most prominent.

An accent is usually no problem at all for me - its the nasality of his singing voice. Vocals that irritate me quite often gets in the way of my enjoyment.
