Hmm...just realized I haven't listened to The Nice before; time to alleviate that (and check out some Regime while I'm at it).

Incantation - Onward to Golgotha: So my 7 year old son seems to be obsessed with my death metal collection, and this old classic from 1992 is currently his favorite. His 10 year old brother is more into instrumental "gamer" techno, ensuring that, music-wise, the "generation gap" still exists.

Suffocation - Pierced from Within: As the story goes, it was told to my wife by my younger son's teacher that he was overhead saying "Immolation is good, but I also like suffocation!" to some classmates. The teacher stated this with an apparent concern for his well-being. I thought it was awesome, extra scoop of ice-cream for that!

Rush - Moving Pictures: "Limelight" was my intro to Rush, as it was on heavy rotation on my fav FM rock station back when I was a youngster. For 3 months I thought the singer was a woman. Then I finally saw Geddy's mug (dreams shattered). Many years later, the song came up on Pandora in the lab where I worked. A guy said "Whoa, who's this singer...is she hot?" I laughed, but felt vindicated.

Roo Panes - "Paperweights": I was in the mood for "fresh folk", so I played the Spotify playlist with that name and this dude caught my ears,so I checked this out. Mainly it was due to him singing like a MAN, rather than the usual twee falsetto type guys. Hairy chest folk. Then I watched a video and my wife was smitten. Total 5 o-clock stud type.

Rozi Plain - Friends: Quirky folky pop stuff featuring an unusual voice. Some nice embellishments like the keyboard that shows up in "Jogalong", which reminded me of Floyd's "The Scarecrow". Her most recent singles seem to be taking her in a more psychedelic rock direction.

Julia Holter - Aviary: All of this listening led me to this album. If Rozi is quirky, then Julia is by the gully fishing for tires. An immersive 90+ minute avant-ride through all kinds of beauty and chaos, complete with occasional bursts of trippy pop heaven. I'm going to be lost in this one for awhile...amazing stuff, how have I not heard of her before?

Oh how I love Suffo - best Tech-Death I’ve heard so far - wish I had a brain back then (‘87-‘93)

And to Dave...

Thats no woman it’s a man baby!!
Rush still rules in my proggy world. I really feel grateful having the collection of albums I have from them.

Today (Friday) had the day off.

Tangerine Dream— Underwater Sunlight. (Oh it’s been too long since I spun this one and I feel it is truly one of the best ambient albums of the 80’s. Sam I know you spun this one lately as well. :)

Brian Eno— Music for Airports.

Vangels— Soil Festivities (capped off my chilled out music listening session. )

Gimmie my headphones now!!! 🎧🤣

Black Oak Arkansas - High on the Hog
Dhvani - Angustium
Genesis - Seconds Out
Iron Maiden - same
Paul Simon - same

My first spin (EVER) of any Black Oak album, and I kinda liked it. Little bit southern but not really in a Skynyrd-ey way. Almost a bit of eccentricity in there too.

Dhvani is a newer psych-space band from Italy that I noticed on the front page of PA. Pretty cool. Lots of texture and color and moodiness but also some heaviness and volume.

I was a "mild" fan back in 70s and was fond of their first album which is self titled.  They had some good moments.  Watching Jim Dandy was like watching a strutting growling rooster LOL

Over the past several days:

Finally finished listening to all the CDs got from the record show a few weeks ago.
+ Bill Bruford - Feels Good to Me
Le Orme - Uomo di Pezza
Mystery - Delusion Rain
Dogs of Peace - Speak
King Crimson - Constukction of Light

Forgot to mention I also listened to Billy Gibbons and the BFGs - Perfectomundo. Sort of ZZ meets Cubian music.

I remember seeing that name on our charts a while ago. Now I'm curious to hear that new album.

I'm not sure I'd call it ambient, it's probably their album with most electric guitar Wink The first movement of Soil Festivities is quite an electronic lullaby though Approve

This weekend:
Causa Sui - Euporie Tide (It's just a few years old but it sounds like a classic of the genre already.)
Trovante - Chão Nosso
Jorge Palma - O Lado Errado da Noite
Mother Engine - Hangar (The boldest Stoner/Psych record of 2017. Too bad I only discovered them last year, it would have been very high on my AOTY list.)
Dzyan - Dzyan (First listen. Early Soft Machine with heavy drugs Wacko)
Trip Lava - Ounds

Certainly not essential for me, but definitely worth a spin on their Bandcamp page. I always sense a great deal of enthusiasm in many of these less-known Italian bands, and I love that. The beauty of the natural surroundings seems to seep into the work.

Outlaws - Ghost Riders
Andy Williams - The Wonderful World of AW
Molly Hatchet - same
Julie London - The End of the World
Ferrante & Teicher - Concert for Lovers

Many of these loungey '60s albums in my lists are original vinyls I inherited from my folks. My brother and I have been enjoying them during cocktail hour and remembering our parents fondly, back in the day, as they played this same music and mixed their own drinks. Mid-century was a great moment for our family, so many great memories.

Yesterday, I had my first "Old Fashioned," which is one hell of a tasty little cocktail.  I'll be back for more.

Nick Mason’s band was really tight and really into the spirit of things. Nick was the reluctant emcee, visibly nervous at all the love he was getting from the crowd and the band. The bass player sang a few of the tunes, including The Nile Song, which he said was incredibly fun to sing. One of the guitarists sang most of the songs, and acted as the Gilmour of the band. The other guitarist didn’t sing much, but concentrated on the weirder guitar sounds, such as Syd’s slide technique and other more avant stylings. The keyboard player nailed Rick Wright’s steady richness (for lack of a better description) and was probably the quiet glue (ugh sorry) that held it all together. Except for Nick of course, who did a great job on the drums - he was definitely NOT phoning it in. Weird after seeing him just coast through the 1994 show, and 25 years later it’s like he’s 30 again. Good on ya, Nick.

Partial setlist (what I recall; not necessarily in order)

Interstellar Overdrive
Astronomy Domine
Lucifer Sam
Fearless
Obscured by Clouds > When You’re In
Remember a Day
Green is the Colour
If > Atom Heart Mother > If
The Nile Song
Arnold Layne
Vegetable Man
Childhood’s End
Let there be More Light
See Emily Play
Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun
One of These Days
Bike

(Encore)
A saucerful of Secrets
Point Me at the Sky

Meanwhile, this is what I listened to today. Once again, the discord of Jandek breaks up an otherwise melodious day

The Turtles | It Ain’t Me Babe
The Turtles | You Baby
The Turtles | Happy Together
Jandek | Brooklyn Wednesday
