Oh, the second is sublime, Sam. A bit different, with more classical music influence. Both are cool in different ways.

^ Man, the Stranger and 52nd Street are like part one and part two of Billy's New York grit phase. Two fantastic albums. I also love Song in the Attic, which provide perfect live versions of some of his quality earlier songs with the current "hot" band rather than session guys.

^^ The Stranger and 52nd Street were frequently played in my house as a youngster, but apart from the hits, I’m less (though not un-) familiar with most of the other albums, but nowadays I’m wanting to hear him more and more often. When he’s good, he’s really good. Really good pop with a great band and great arrangements.

At a minimum, I'd also suggest Glass Houses...less NY vibe, but he seems to take his love of the 50s and inject a real heaviness to it....after that one, he veered to a more mature sound which appeals far less to me. Glass Houses was the last bad boy record. Side 1 has the hits, but side 2 has some great songs, all of which take me back to my teenage years very well. I had it on 8-track! Songs in the Attic is essential, to hear him live with that band he had then and the early gems. Then, Turnstiles is interesting to hear the transition before Stranger.

QVL - Il Tempo Della Gioia
Cherry Glazerr - Stuffed Billy Joel - Glass Houses Pretty Things - Silk Torpedo Elton John - The Fox I shouldn't have doubted Clem. The Cherry album is great -- not unlike Garbage mid 90s -- but I still prefer the last album that was so rough and aloof and unpredictable. |

Got lucky today. Had a great time breaking in a new pair of headphones.
Brad Fiedel-- Terminator 2 Motion picture soundtrack. Marillion-- Clutching At Straws Genesis-- Duke ( scored an original west German 1983 edition of this disc . Absolutely way better than my 1994 remaster .) Ray Charles -- The Genius Sings The Blues ( Mono) Iron Maiden-- 7Th son of a 7Th son. What a time but I had to stretch it to 3am .lol . Hope all is well fellas!!

Mostly listened to a shuffle today, but just now played 3 vinyl sides on the basement stereo to entertain my wife who was doing some painting down there. 80s stuff.

Yeah, it has a real energy to it. It felt like he was hitting it hard on that one. I will have to try Nylon Curtain again. I've always struggled with his sound and seriousness post Attic.

No prob, Oz. I think we all have those bands that we don't really dig....that everyone seems to love. For me, Bowie is the first that comes to mind, but I could come up with more. Nothing wrong with it. We like what we like.

Yes - Fragile
Stones - Let it Bleed Hole - Celebrity Skin Metallica - Ride the Lightning Fanny - Charity Ball Fanny is one of the first all-female hard-rock bands. My first listen...they kick ass! And years before Runaways would rock. I'm embarrassed I didn't know about this band. Edited by Finnforest - February 13 2019 at 13:50 |

Mostly favourites this week, I didn't get much from music these days :/ Trovante - Baile no Bosque A Presença das Formigas - Pé de Vento Banda do Casaco - Hoje Há Conquilhas, Amanhã Não Sabemos (I really wish the master tapes were found. It's a shame their best album has the worst quality.) Causa Sui - Return to Sky PFM - Per Un Amico Museo Rosenbach - Zarathustra (First time I heard it with my current gear, it was not as pleasant as before.) Rush - Signals
