So many suggestions for just copying this but I think Watcher of the Skies and Get 'em out by Friday are amongst the dullest Genesis/Gabriel era songs... weak melodies and nagging vocals...

Suppers ready is just starting to get going when it fades out....Go one beyond the ordinary tribute acts...Practice till your all at the level required then extend the fook out of their classics beginning with extending the 9/8 section and adding in five more minutes of that brilliant ending guitar solo....That would REALLY piss the fookers who love anything beyond 1977...

Watches of the Skies: fantastic incipit by Tony Banks, but then... too much forced.

I chose to ignore it. Whats the point of wanting to do Genesis classics and ignore the epic? If a tribute bamd think its too long then maybe they should stick to bangi ng out "me and sarah jane"... |

last time I saw Hackett's Genesis revisited, Supper's Ready was the low point of the evening. Far from boring but soo f**king long, man.

I totally agree. I can't stand his lyrics and stupid accents on those. Not just on those two though. He did it on loads of other songs as well, on that awful "I Know what I Like," for example, and on "The Battle of Epping Forest" I think one really strong album could have been made from Nursery Cryme and Foxtrot called The Musical Supper, for example, which is basically my Spotify playlist for those two albums ![]() ![]() The Musical Box Return of the Giant Hogweed Seven Stones The Fountain of Salmacis Time Table Horizons Supper's Ready. My Spotify playlist for an abbreviated SEBTP is: Dancing With the Moonlit Knight X Firth of Fifth More Fool Me X After the Ordeal The Cinema Show Aisle of Plenty As for Trespass, it's a great pop album, I never skip anything on it. Some of it reminds me nicely of "Am I Very Wrong"

FFS. "MORE FOOL ME"??? It's the one song which has no part of the concept at all. Firth of Fifth could have been extended rather than have collins penchance for totally sh*t love songs sully the finest symph release ever...

I suppose that you probably had to be alive in 1974 (and be english) to appreciate the concept. The lyrical content of epping forest is genius...

Whatever PG era stuff you play, someone will grumble and someone will have tears in their eyes.. we're lucky anybody plays any of this stuff live otherwise we'd all be stuck inside watching Shepperton sound stage live 73 and never go out... ever..

Well, we are at Prog Archives... I believe the great majority of us will agree on which is the classic line-up... and whomever may not agree will know exactly what is meant ![]() |

Yeah, I dislike those ones too... For me, "Get 'em out by Friday", "Harold the Barell", and "Battle of Epping Forest" sort of make a trilogy of Hell from the Classic Genesis. I don't really enjoy "Watcher of the Skies" either... I rather dislike it, but Hackett's live version on Tokyo Tapes somehow really fixed it for me, and I really love that version. |
