Trying some of your Death Grips, David. Quite the transition from Dirt Farmer, but a jarring poke at typical Sunday listening is good. Dirt Farmer is really good. I love the harmonies with Levon and his daughter. Beautiful.

![]() Holy moly that is quite the jump! I love a good Death Grips album from time to time...rumble up my kidneys and clear out my sinuses. That last bit is most definitely felt in their usage of high frequency sounds and what sounds like static from old radios. Love the beats though. Made by the former drummer from Hella...a band featured here on PA btw! If you want yet another musical u-turn I highly recommend you go check out Bisch Bosch later on. There's a guy there playing marbles in a grand vase...I kid you not! |

I like albums like that too as a departure...though I'll admit i don't play stuff like that too often. That's why I love this thread though. Lots of off the wall ideas for things to peruse. Bisch Bosch, eh?

My Bloody Valentine - Loveless: Yeah, it's a good album I guess.
Slowdive - Souvlaki: When I first heard this, I was like "yeah, another shoegaze album, yay and stuff". A second listen made me realize just how gorgeous this particular release could sometimes get. Swirlies - They Spent Their Wild Youthful Days in the Glittering World of the Salons: Oh crap, my first listen and this is the MOTHERLODE. Shoegaze with some noise-rock, krautrock and a bit of math-rock thrown in. Holy cow how did I miss this back in the day? I can't wait to charge this monster up again. Damn! Lush - Spooky: I'm guessing Robin Guthrie wanted a hand in this album back in 1992 because he knew his own band was going down the tubes and he wanted to be involved in something GOOD. "For Love" is such a beautiful thing. Portrait - Burn the World: Moving away from the shoegaze, this is somewhat similar to old Mercyful Fate with a fair amount of modern divergences. Not sure if this was the right time for this sort of thing. I probably should have thrown on a Ride album. Korpiklaani - Kulkija - Finnish folk metal. Probably a blessing that the lyrics are Finnish...I can only imagine. Some of these songs do make me want to pull back that animal horn filled with mead me thinks. God this is cheesy. Nice album cover, very quaint.

I listened to Death Grips a couple of weeks ago. Bleary eyed and worn out after a hard-partying weekend at ProgDay, I had a 7 hour drive home and “The Powers That B” was one of many CDs that helped me along.

Well that was a hell of lot more interesting than what I was listening to. Kinda math-y, which I like. Jimi Hendrix - Electric Ladyland: I love chillin' out to that merman piece, and yeah, very prog. Most of side two is just sort of ok. I mean I enjoy everything by the guy, but it's not 'til the midnight lamp tune that I go "WOW". Burning Witches - Burning Witches: Retro heavy metal performed by 5 Swiss girls. I was hoping for some yodels, but I will say they do practically everything else vocally from operatic wails to sleazy 80's vamping to occasional goblin growls. A bit messed up, still looking for a voice. Swervedriver - Mezcal Head: That point where Shoegaze and stoner rock meet, and yet it's somewhat heavy "alternative" rock as well, but with a space-rock angle. Very difficult to categorize actually.
