Hey Jim, just this past week an acquaintance in another music group was asking for recommendations for weird Italian stuff, and thanks in part to you, I had plenty to offer him. I still listen to that Nascita della Sfera album all the time. Still haven’t found a reaonably priced CD copy yet. He thought that album was amazing too.
Today: Franco Battiato | Battiato Franco Battiato | M Elle le Gladiator Franco Battiato | Sulle Corde di Aries Albert Marcoeur | s/t Julian Cope | Jehovahkill Bob Dylan | Bootleg Series V 10: Another Self Potrait (1969-1971) Parquet Courts | Human Performance Nascita della Sfera | Per una Scultura di Ceschia Animal Collective | Campfire Songs |

That P Courts album is a doozy, is it not? That P Vuh is quite sweet as well. And Lorca? Wowzers. |

You're most welcome, Steve. That album truly is a trip. I have to dig it out again sometime for a fresh spin.

Hi Steve Yup I had a bit of a music party there. Popol Vuh for the zen. Parquet Courts for the dozies and funpacked action organ post punk. Tim for the mad mad part in me. He even seems to scare himself on this one. No wonder when you're really over yonder. Nice Italiano section. I remember my birthday present for you a good while back was a review of that Nascita della Sfera album ![]() Me yesterday: ZU - Jhator Charles Mingus - Mingus Ah Um Santana - 3 Marvin Gaye - Troubleman Soundtrack Walrus - s/t (kinda like the Morte Macabre album only more Krauty) Tonton Macoute - s/t Cocteau Twins - Garlands Velvet Underground - Live ll (the one with stretched out psychedelia of The Ocean ![]() Fire! I latched onto The Band via Bob Dylan and the two actually managed to make countey western music palatable to me, which is quite the feat in itself. Alright I always loved the more rocking things they made together, but there is certainly a great country western footprint in there that goes beyond the surface of the genre. Have you heard the newest Fleet Foxes btw? Sorta like if The Beach Boys and The Band joined forces in order to record this beautiful lofty folk rock record. There's a gentleness there I think you'd appreciate. |

I do remember that birthday review well. You nailed it for that one! I almost bought a copy of Santana 3 today. I’ve given too little attention to those early albums, usually starting my listening with Caravanserai, Lotus, Borboletta, and a couple more Devadip albums. It’s a gap I intend to fill in my collection someday soon. Today (so far): Guided by Voices | Class Clown Spots a UFO James Ferraro | Postremo Mundis Techno-Emporium Tangerine Dream | Atem |

David, I've heard just little bits and pieces of the FF...not enough. I need to hear more. But enough to be intrigued for sure. The Band captured so much of the Americana "open road" feel, not bad for a bunch of Canadians and a boy from Turkey Scratch. Certainly others like the Dead did too, but The Band could be succinct and rely on the song, the harmonies, and great stories, without feeling the need to solo constantly. Their albums sound like travelogues and records of history. There is something in their sound that comes from years on the road. While there are many accomplished musicians out there, prog or otherwise, their spectacular "chops" are missing that vibe that is years and years of playing joint and joint. You can hear that little bit of weariness that is oddly comforting.

Funny how that goes. I turned onto Santana via Woodstock and as a consequence started with the beginning of his discography. Selfttitled, Abraxas, 3 and one of my faves the early 1968 Filmore gig. There's a distinct bluesy vibe to the early years of the band even if it is spliced up with salsa, jazz and psych rock. Atem eh? Those 4 notes have always reminded me of these humonguous stone doors opening and closing. I gather its my synesthesia playing tricks on me but they're always there, opening and closing in a very stoic manner. Yesterday: Pond - The Weather Miles Davis - Filles de Kilimanjaro Eloy - Dawn PiNioL - Bran Cocou Fleet Foxes - S/t Kraftwerk - l ZU - Jhator Aktuala - S/t Magma - Live/Hhaï Klaus Schulze - Audentity |

Good to see Fire of Unknown Origin on your menu. Been listening to that consistently for as long as I can remember. I once had a dream I was performing “Veteran of the Psychic Wars” on stage and nailing it. Ever since, I’ve had a desire to sing it. Someday! |
