[you can't overrate Floyd.. one can only mis categorize them. They don't belong as part of any half ass Big 6. They were progressive.. not prog. That is like calling the Beatles a big 6 prog group.]

A lot of people feel that way so I don't want to say too much about that. However, although I agree the Beatles were "progressive" they didn't do side long epic tracks like Pink Floyd did and didn't have long stretches of instrumental parts and keyboard solos. A lot of simple verse chorus stuff that is far less adventurous than Pink Floyd is considered prog so I'm wondering why you don't. I can understand more people saying the Moody Blues or even later day Marillion as not being prog more than I understand it for PF but maybe that's just me.

Talented musicians. Clearly got something to have gone on so long.
But I just can't get into Jethro Tull. I admire the concept and ideas, but musically it just makes me change the channel or press eject.

I love The Big Six!!! I always include Gentle Giant, Rush and Kansas to make a Big Nine but whatever.

Either way, Pink Floyd is the correct answer.

I don't like ELP in any any way shape or form.  But they are so maligned even in prog circles that I can't see them as overrated.  That vote easily goes to Pink Floyd, since I think all the other groups deserve their high status even if I can't always appreciate them (ahem Yes)

Don't know if I said this already, but for me it's ELP. They write good songs, but they just don't have the same emotional value for me as the other five. Maybe it's their arrangements or their lyrics or whatever, but they just don't do it for me.

To me it´s absolutely same what Floyd is called. To me they are one of the greatest bands in the world and that´s enough for me.

I guess some of us(especially those of us who got into prog before the internet)liked these bands before we knew we weren't supposed to like them. Yes, I am referring mainly to ELP with that statement. ;)

Says the people on here or just about anywhere these days where people are discussing prog. As for the "why" it's already been stated but basically they feel they were overblown, too many keys, too much showing off(I'm guessing).

I can see that. These days they are probably as well known as Yes(believe it or not)especially in prog circles and even beyond. It's not like most people don't know who KC are(or at least not anymore than Yes)unless they are really clueless or just not much into music.
