Well, kinda, it's patchy, but...I have the theory that a couple of tracks from each of the final few Byrds albums would make for one completely killer album! ****** A couple of recent repeats tonight: Jane – Together Alcatraz – Vampire State Building Ave Rock – Espacios Siddhartha - Weltschmerz Satin Whale – Lost Mankind Ptarmigan – s/t Karfagen – Messages from Afar: First Contact Comedy of Errors – House of the Mind (sharp drop off in quality from the previous disc...a mix of reliable but unmemorable tunes and some messy if ambitious orchestral arrangements ear the end...couple of nice moments through) A couple of Youtube spins: Sicher – s/t (1981) Irmin’s Way – Opus Destroy (1976) Cluster – Zuckerzeit (this is often considered a poorer Cluster album WHY?) KL(aus) – s/t Osanna – Palepoli – (FINALLY bought a proper copy of this, it’s a disgrace it took me so long, one of THE legendary RPI discs…and listening to it closer properly for the first time, I totally understand its reputation) |

Caught up with some early 80s Steve Hackett - Cured and Highly Strung. I'm a huge fan, obviously (just booked my tickets for the Orchestra tour!) but these albums have not aged well. 80's keyboards, drum machines and Steve still trying to find the right pitch for his voice. Definitely trying to reach a pop audience at the end of the Charisma contract, but there are still gems to be found, especially on the latter '83 release. Can't get Cell 151 out of my head at present!

Word! It was actually my first listen to Fun House, if you can imagine - I'd never listened to it before. Liked it a lot, especially the last track. And Can: ohhh, Can. Future Days is some of my favorite music of all time. |
