Well, not before listening, some were nearly inscrutable! But I obviously recognized them all after listening. |

Lucky you! I personally love Träd, Gräs och Stenar and that whole Swedish psychedelic rock scene in general (International Harvester, Pärson Sound etc.). It's mainly collective improvisation, though there are also some songs there, too. At times, it's kind of like Grateful Dead and Amon Düül, but there is that sweet Swedish element there, suggested by gentle hints of the country's folk music. Their albums don't get very high ratings on PA, some people just don't seem to enjoy improvisation without a clear point, but I'm not one of them. Great band. |

^^ Yeah, I've been dusting off some oldies lately.
I have the first three albums by Captain Beyond but haven't really dedicated much time to them. Sufficiently Breathless is much more laid back than the debut and doesn't seem to have the same energy. They got back to their roots a little on Dawn Explosion but neither album tops the debut. |

Indeed it was a day of favourites! I was feeling a bit down so a nice long drive with good tunes was just the thing I needed. As per Crucis, I enjoy it every bit as much as the others. Probably a top 50 album personally, and quite popular in the prog community. I actually saw a clipping from an Argentine music magazine that showed the 1977 reader's choice poll results for local bands and Crucis absolutely swept the floor with everyone else (even Charly Garcia and Spinetta!) in just about every category. The album is mostly instrumental jams with a spacey symphonic character and some fusion vibes. Here's an excerpt from my review of it:
It may come across as a bit noodle-y at times, but in all it's a very fun, short album. I'd recommend it! Yesterday's albums: Steve Vai - Flex-Able Beatles - Sgt. Pepper's Paul Simon - S/T Miles Davis - In A Silent Way Allman Brothers Band - Eat A Peach |

Don't you mean some people don't seem to enjoy improvisation without a joint?
Yesterday: Terpandre - s/t Black Sabbath - s/t (Quite a change after the sweetness of Terpandre.) Papadosio - Pattern Integrities (Post/Math/Space/Electronic/Pop/Name your genre.) Steve Roach - NOW (Really nice debut, very Berlin School.) Steven Wilson - Grace for Drowning (5.1 DTS. I'll have to listen to it on stereo one day ) |

Love Algarnas Tradgard, one of my favorite Swedish bands overall, but I have only briefly heard about Our Solar System, I just know they are stoner-esuqe. I'll check them out. Haha, I did not mean that, but, now that I'm thinking, it might be it. Edited by ALotOfBottle - June 20 2017 at 12:22 |

Yesterday: Träd, Gräs och Stenar - Djungelns Lag (It's a bit uneven but has plenty of great moments.) Captain Beyond - s/t (I didn't remember how good this is.) Crucis - Los Delirios del Mariscal (This is fantastic! Excellent instrumental and musicianship, the drummer is particularly impressive. I feel like listening to Finch again.) Yellow Magic Orchestra - s/t Yellow Magic Orchestra - Solid State Survivor Klaus Schulze & Pete Namlook - Dark Side of the Moog Vol.7 (Close to the previous volume but more continuous and inspired. It's also the shortest but the progressions are more carefully planed than before. I think it's the best so far and also has the best pun, "Obscured by Klaus" ) |
