Electronic Friday:
Billow Observatory - Pulsus (Brand new album from Jonas Munk. Lovely atmospheres, as usual.)
Giorgio Moroder - From Here To Eternity
Deutsche Wertarbeit - s/t
Kraftwerk - Autobahn
Zombi - Escape Velocity
Manuel Göttsching - Inventions for Electric Guitar (Funny how he only uses electric guitar but it can still be considered Electronic music. It's also hard to believe that some tracks are not keyboards.)

And it's even more impressive when you consider it was recorded on just four tracks.

Sun Ra - In Some Far Place: Roma '77 I saw this album at a record store during my trip to Warsaw yesterday and wanted to buy it. I did not do it, though, because I had never heard it before and it was a bit pricey. And man, may it be there the next time I visit. This is fabulous. Just the God himself playing here with the amazing Luqman Ali on drums. Woah, what an experience. This release sums up nearly everything I love about Sun Ra.

Azrachel - Azrachel  Love this album. It's fascinating to hear what Egg sounded like together with Steve Hillage a year before their debut. This gets very trippy at times. The pieces are well balanced - great songwriting, improvisation and they seem to have taken care for the atmosphere to be dense at all times.

Argh, I'm really ticked off, Tymon! I never considered that Arzachel album as essential for me personally, so I never made it a priority to track down, but at a recent record fair I came across the most recent CD reissue of it and thought `Hmm, if I don't find much today, I think I'll come back and snap this up...'. Cue me two weeks later remembering about it and thinking `Aww, son of a '

There's another fair in about three and a bit weeks that will have the same vendor there. Providing he didn't sell it that day, I plan on grabbing it as soon as I get there this time!

I hardly ever remember to give this album a spin, and I've finally worked out why, Sam. I get this confused with `Blackouts', which, I'm sad to say, is not an album I like very much at all. Sure, he's playing guitar endlessly on both of them, but whereas on `Inventions...' he's building up these beautiful hypnotic ambient pieces, `Blackouts' spounds to me like a 45-plus minute guitar solo...it actually bores me quite a lot. OK, that's a bit of an exaggeration, but still...guess I just need to get caught in the right mood for it.

Now `New Age of Earth' - that's the cat's pajamas, baby!

^ Dude - Blackouts is my fave !! Don't Trust The Kids / Blackouts is unbelievably super-awesome !! Love Inventions, New Age Of Earth is a bit.......boring (ha ha) - it's not one I revisit often, and Correlations is patchy.
Gimme ART for the ultimate brain-fry !!
Arzachel is a bit of a Psych gem, Mike.

I hope you find that CD at the upcoming fair. Good luck! Smile I imagine it must be fun to play this one at full blast on your home speakers or in your car, so it's definitely worth having on CD. Big smile There is an interesting story about the covers of these. The cover of the original UK pressing was a plain black-and-white pattern without the AZRACHEL sign. The US pressing from 1970 was black-and-purple/red-ish, while German was black-and-cyan, both with the bandname at the top. The reissues also come in different colors. Which one was the one you found?

Today:
The Caretaker - An Empty Bliss Beyond This World
Boards of Canada - In a Beautiful Place Out in the Country
Lard Free - I'm Around About Midnight
Franco Battiato - Pollution
Shamek Farrah - First Impressions
H.P. Lovecraft - H.P. Lovecraft II
