There was amazing cartoon series about sport. You even don't have to know language to uderstand it. This is one of my favorite!

An ex of mine was Russian, from Volgograd. She had some strange ideas. 

We were talking about the Teletubbies. "Yes, I know this, it's called "Telepuzeki" and it's a Russian programme", she said. 

"It's made by the BBC", I said.

"No, they speak with Russian accents".

At this point you think this is not worth arguing about. ;-)

Incidentally, a lot of Russians believe that the Wizard of Oz was written by a Russian, Aleksandr Volkov, I think. Stalin was a big fan of the movie and commissioned (well, told) Volkov to write a Russian version. So Volkov, being a good communist and not particularly wanting "nine grams of lead" from the Committee for State Security, wrote about 7 extra novels in a similar vein. The Wizard of the Emerald City, I think - "Волшебник Изумрудного города"

Incidentally, folks, do learn a little Russian. It's a fascinating language.

Sorry to distract from the theme of the thread. Perhaps another thread could be started simply about Soviet era music. I have a little bit of it including Vladimir Vysotsky, Nol, Zhanna Bichevskaya, Mashina Vremeni and Akvarium. Great stuff!

So Gene Roddenberry's portrayal of Mr. Chekov is not far off.
