When I get my old and broken computer replaced I promise to get it digitized and drop in at PSIKE with a link.

Thoroughly enjoy UH's three big ones, Salisbury through D&W, with D&W as my definitive favourite. They lost me with the bland The Magician's Birthday though, so I haven't ventured any further there.

Great album! One of my favourites, as you know, Sam. Highly recommend checking out their new one if you haven't already. Almost as good as Escenes, I'd say, just missing the final standout track. Nothing as masteful as "Historia d'una Gota d'Aigua" on there, but a lot of great jazzy melodies with wonderful keys and flute.
I heard the two albums only once but I remember it was quite good. Maybe you're thinking of Rock Bottom Dead

Cool, thanks Thumbs Up

Oh, I forgot the check out more albums from them Embarrassed

I totally forgot about the new album, thanks for recommending Smile

This weekend:
Causa Sui - Return to Sky
Peste & Sida - É Que É
Sean Riley & The Slowriders - s/t
Pyotr Tchaikovsky - Sympony No. 6
Black Mountain - IV
Zanov - Virtual Future

Alive in Paris 1970 (the whole concert is on YouTube), Live at Henie Onstad Art Centre, and Grides are my favorite live Soft Machine recordings. Breda Reactor is not great, but it's very interesting due to the "in-between-Volume-Two-and-Third" repertoire. Live at the Proms 1970 is also worth a listen, because they do the Terry Riley-esque opening to "Out-Bloody-Rageous."
Thumbs Up I'll keep this in mind for when I go hunting for some live SM. Thanks.

Hmm...guess that wasn't you then. LOL Well, they're easily my favourite Canterbury act. Love both of their albums, and pretty much equally too. I used to prefer Rotters' Club slightly, but lately I've been more in the mood for their debut.

Anyway, last few days for me:

King Crimson - In the Court of the Crimson King
King Crimson - In the Wake of Poseidon
Emerson Lake & Palmer - s/t
Emerson Lake & Palmer - Tarkus
Emerson Lake & Palmer - Pictures at an Exhibition
Emerson Lake & Palmer - Trilogy
Emerson Lake & Palmer - Brain Salad Surgery
Emerson Lake & Palmer - Welcome Back My Friends to the Show That Never Ends ~ Ladies and Gentlemen
Emerson Lake & Palmer - Works Vol. 1
Emerson Lake & Palmer - Black Moon (RIP Greg Cry)
Bugge Wesseltoft - It's Snowing on My Piano
John Zorn - A Dreamers Christmas
Ulver - Blood Inside

Also, belated happy birthday, Nick. Party Hope you had a good one.

Judas Priest - Defenders of The Faith - This'll wake you up in the morning, any day of the week! Freewheeel Burniiiiiiiiinn!!!!!!! Cool

Rick Wakeman - Six Wives of Henry VIII - Ah, probably the one tasteful album of his entire solo career. Very well done symphonic prog, and a keyboard lover's paradise. Always a delight to put this one on, even if "Rick Wakeman On Ice" is my absolute favourite thing prog has ever produced. LOL

Boston - Boston - One of the great feelgood albums of all time! Hard not to belt out each and every track on here, it's just so melodic and catchy.

Lynyrd Skynyrd - Pronounced [Leh-nerd Skin-nerd] - God, this is such a masterpiece. Ronnie Van Zant = my #1 favourite singer and lyricist of all time. The ballads on here are so gorgeous (the mellotron is Tuesday's Gone is spine-chillingly beautiful), and everything else just plain rocks (with the demo Gimme Three Steps substituted in for that extra honky tonk goodness, of course). And Free Bird, FM staple as it is (or so they say; I actually have yet to ever hear this on the radio), will blow any of your wimpy prog epics out of the water 9 times out of 10. There's only one problem with it, though; the guitar solo's way too short! Big smile

Harmonium - Si On Avait Besoin d'Une Cinquième Saison - Ha, of all the albums to turn up on shuffle to follow up Free Bird, I just happen to get one of the lightest and most laid back ones in my collection! LOL Not that I'm complaining, though; this is another one of my all-time faves. So many happy memories and associations with this one. And Serge Fiori's voice is just exceptional. A perfect album for any season!

Jean-Michel Jarre - Oxygène 7-13
A la Ping Pong - Extrem Musik à la Ping Pong Phase 1
Mother Superior - s/t
Salada de Frutas - Crime Perfeito (First listen. I heard their last album was a failure in sales, it could only mean one thing in 1982. Easily their best.)
The Awakening - Hear, Sense and Feel (I discovered this obscure Jazz band on the radio two days ago. Incredible album Clap)
Motorpsycho - Here Be Monsters (Definitely better than "Behind the Sun")

My choices last night:

Genesis – Duke
Anglagard – Hybris
Anima Morte – The Nightmare Becomes Reality
Posto Blocco 19 - Motivi di sempre - a short but superb album!
Marchesi Scamorza – Hyphophonia - a great second album from them
Michael Brueckner – Trois Briques

Big Big Train - Folklore - yes, it's nice, exquisitely played and beautifully sung, and most of the songs suddenly throw in some wonderful unexpected instrumental passage just in the nick of time as they're starting to get a bit plodding, but there's something getting a little dull with the whole polite `English-ness' of it all (which I'm sure is one of the main qualities that appeals to their fans about them). For me there's a real `quietly musing whilst nodding your head, stroking your chin and smoking your pipe in your maroon dressing gown while reclining in your posh chair' quality that is kind of turning my stomach. It sure didn't need to run for almost 70 minutes as well.

Huh, my favourite local record store has these two on CD, but I'm not really familiar with Battiato's stuff. Would you recommend them?

Anyway, today's tunes:

Birds and Buildings - Bantam To Behemoth - Probably my favourite prog album of the 21st century so far. The vocals are nothing special and often lost in the mix, but there's so much going on instrumentally that it more than compensates. Yep, this is definitive eclectic prog. There's a bit of everything in here, and so much more; they're all over the place! If you adore complex, diverse, (and frankly insane) music, then this is a must-hear.

I definitely would recommend them, especially for you who seem to share my love for the more mellow/melodic side of RPI. These 2 albums feature really awe-inspiring synthesizer passages that remind me of PFM in songs like "Impressioni Di Settembre", "Appena Un Po" and "Il Banchetto", but his stuff is definitely more experimental than PFM. Both albums are pure RPI, sure to be appreciated by anyone familiar with the genre.

^ Definitely get Pollution. Great album and I should give it another listen as well Thumbs Up

Yesterday:
Gotic - Gegants i Serpentines (This is truly fantastic, Audun Clap It seems a bit more Fusion than the debut.)
Supertramp - s/t (I'm yet to find a copy of this in good condition.)
Arena - Pride
Fever Knife - s/t
The Awakening - Mirage (Even better than the debut! It's such a great mixture of Jazz genres and moods. Clap)
Strawbs - Grave New World (Quite annoying: a gatefold LP witout tracklist or credits on it... thanks Internet. Funny you mention the polite Englishness, Michael, I was thinking something similar of this, although not nearly as grating as JT. I guess I much prefer the Mediterranean side of Prog Folk, for obvious reasons.)

I second this. Awesome album! It may very well end up as one of my 2016 picks, as a matter of fact.
