Cromagnon - Caledonia

That's an album I hold in very high regard, David. It's a really brave effort for 1969. The track "Caledonia" is mind-blowing.

Egg - The Civil Surface I love this album and have loved it since the very first time I heard it. There is something so playful and whimsical about these melodies and harmonies here and they are at the highest technical level. This mixture of many different influences, jazz-fusion, 20th century classical, avant-rock, is incredibly effective.

Acid Mothers Temple - In C I am big into minimalism and I was curious what kind of stuff Acid Mothers Temple, a band I had investigated very briefly a while ago, might be able to conjure up with such a title. The music is interesting to say the least. Very original, although the framework is mostly krautrock/space-rock-inspired, this is actually minimal and I liked this album.

John Surman - Tales of the Algonquin John Surman is a musician I really like, same goes for this album. It's a great representation of his and his band's capabilities. It's similar to many British jazz records of the early seventies - on the edge of post-bop, rhythm and instrument-wise, and fusion, harmonically. Really nice!

Isotope - Illusion Aaaand now we travel to more jazz-fusion oriented territories. This is a great album. These energetic rapid grooves are, in my opinion, quintessential of fusion. Hugh Hopper has some excellent bass parts, especially on the title track. Gary Boyle on guitar is a wizard. Keyboard work is also spectacular. This band played together really well.

Teddy Lasry - E=MC˛ Sam, this is indeed a very original album. I really liked it. It's electronic for sure, but you can't tell if it's jazz-oriented or what. There are influences of jazz, folk, and ethnic music and they blend really well. For what I know, this is very well-crafted melodic progressive electronic music.

Klaus Schulze - Mirage Definitely my favorite Klaus Schulze album. All of the elements of his music that I love click on this album. It's so emotional, so atmospheric, so beautiful, this is a jewell. Even from my computer, it sounds so sharp, these soundscapes are really delightful. I am definitely looking into getting the record.

Yup love that Cromagnon album. Bought it back in high school to woo women with. Didn't exactly work but I did dig it from day one.
Cool to see that Teddy album mentioned on here. Mr Library man strikes back... Funny how some of these under the radar experimental electronic albums got tagged with the misnomer of 'library music'.

Me yesterday with an insane hangover:
Klaus Schulze - Privée
Cocteau Twins - Victorialand
Cluster - ll
Kalevala - People No Name
Steve Miller Band - Children Of The Future
Tangerine Dream - Reims gigs from the official bootleg boxset
John Coltrane - Meditations
Ochre - Lemodie
Kendrick Lamar - Untitled Unmastered

PFM - Per Un Amico - Such a sublime album, that's the only way to describe it. The only problem I have with it is that it just gets less and less interesting as it goes. Appena Un Po is one of the best openers of all time, and perhaps my favourite RPI song, period. Then Generale and its frantic jazz freak-out makes for a good followup. Then by the time you get to the title track, I find that this album loses a lot of energy. Side two is very pretty, but I don't find it especially moving.

Pallas - The Sentinel - When you cut out the pop drivel and put on the expanded edition with the full Atlantis Suite, this really isn't too bad of an album at all. Even then, it still sounds quite generic, and the production is quite poor, but there are some good symphonic instrumental passages to make it worthwhile.

A few more:

Brand X - Unorthodox Behaviour - My admiration for Phil Collins as a drummer comes exclusively from this album and its followup, Moroccan Roll. The man slayed fusion, even if his Genesis work was notably average. Anyway, the arrangements on this album are highly original, the performances tight, and there's a sort of late night 50's"espionage"-type vibe that I get from a lot of it that makes it cool to put on now and again.

Black Sabbath - Paranoid - War Pigs. Enough said.

Grateful Dead - Blues For Allah (Bonus Tracks) - Listened to a collection of 6 previously unreleased studio jams and demos that are included on recent reissues of the original album. Not extraordinary stuff, but not too shabby either. Creative psychedelic fusion, as one would expect from the Dead, especially this period of their career.

Cherry Five - Cherry Five - Love this album! All the positive, upbeat feel of Yes (a la Yes Album) but with even more keyboard pyrotechnics to rock along to. There isn't a single wasted note on the whole album; it's an action packed Italian (albeit with English vocals) fun-fest from start to finish.

Hanagaria - Court of Hallucinations - A new release by an absolutely bonkers outfit out of Israel. Thanks for sharing, Sagi! This is one of the best modern releases I've heard, no doubt one of the most interesting. A flamboyant assault of theatrical, out of control, avant-garde prog, this is one of those ones that I can't imagine myself getting tired of too quickly. There's so much going on here and I love it.

Mainly dark and/or ambient selections today. Something in the air calling for that type of music today. All you would want to do is stay indoors contemplating and sipping hot tea with raspberry syrup.

Eberhard Weber - The Following Morning This is beautiful. Four delicate, carefully orchestrated compositions. The instrumentation is interesting with Weber's upright bass and Rainer Brüninghaus' acoustic and electric pianos being the three instruments in the foreground. The orchestral accompaniment from the French horn, oboe, and cello is gentle, but crucial. The end result is very dark, kind of nostalgic and, in result, extremely moving. Highly recommended!

John Surman - Road to Saint Ives John Surman never disappoints. This solo record of his is typically ECM-y (as was the previous one), which means rather gloomy and, more importantly, very original. I think this melange of post-bop, avant-jazz, and electro-ambient turned out really well.

Daniel Lentz - Missa Umbrarum This is a rather obscure American composer, whom I've discovered through the recent Sounds of the Dawn broadcast on NTS radio. This is sort of minimal new-age ambient with notable choir work and a detectable academic approach. It’s seriously good.

Another Evening at Logos This is a recent release documenting portions of four different concerts recorded at Palais Des Beaux-Arts in Brussels. We’ve got Max Eastley, Feminist Improvising Group, COUM Transmissions, and Dereck Bailey on the bill. In my humble opinion, Max Eastley’s set is the most interesting, in a way that I got the most out of his improvisation. Other three acts are equally interesting, though.

Agitation Free - Last I never quite “got” Agitation Free, even when I was on my “extreme” krautrock kick this summer, when all I could do was to listen to German space jams all day without even eating. I know it’s a very good band, though, and I do enjoy listening to them every now and then. This is probably their best album, in my opinion, a healthy mix of Cluster-esque drones and very nice modal guitar jams.

Categories strain, crack and sometimes break, under their burden - step out of the space provided.

Love that kind of mood, and Eberhard Weber's stuff always hits the spot for that kind of weather. I find In The Land of Grey and Pink, Quella Vecchia Locanda's Il Tempo Della Gioia and King Crimson's Islands to be ideal albums for those days, too.

I used to think that but "Il Banchetto" became my favourite track after a while. The repetitive ending of "Geranio" is the worst part in my opinion but I don't mind it as much now.

Yeah, it's impossible not to feel good after that. Funny how it later became Goblin, far from the positive vibe of Cherry Five Tongue

This weekend:
The Winstons - s/t
Ingranaggi della Valle - In Hoc Signo (I heard it a few times already and still can't distinguish any song from the other, the album sounds a bit samey so far.)
Il Tempio delle Clessidre - alieNatura (I don't know how I didn't notice before that the epic synth solo in the end of "Il Passo" is faded out way too soon in the vinyl version and there was no need since there's some unused space on that side Ouch This is almost as disappointing as a radio edit of "Free Bird". I'll have to think twice before buying another LP from Black Widow, I'm afraid the quality of the cover is the best thing about the ones I have.)
Tangerine Dream - Exit

Ho Ho!! Kevin I'm really glad you dig these guys, like you said they are out of control. And I know what you mean There's so much going on all the time so you never tire of it even though it's quite demanding.
It's slowly becoming one of my favorite albums this year no doubt about it, I'll try and add the band to the archives hopefully tomorrow.
