When you fall in love with Canterbury, there is no coming back! At one point in my musical life, I was afraid krautrock would dethrone Canterbury, but, man, nothing can dethrone Canterbury, as much as I love krautrock. Glad you've also listed Supersister! |

F*cking killer album, Gary! The best Ozric Tentacles album that the Ozrics never recorded! Might even give it a spin tonight. |

Last two days have consisted of Tangerine Dream's Official Bootleg thingy vol one. Two loooong cuts from Reims 1973 and 4 semilong ones from Mannheim 1976. Quite possibly the finest TD I've listened to ever - or maybe that is just the last two days talking. But damn this is tasty! Holy smokes! If any of you enjoy the early to mid 70s output of the Margarine Fiend you most definitely need to pick this up. The sound quality of the Reims cuts is brilliant - hell maybe even better than Ricochet, whereas Mannheim feels more like a stadium gig with wee bit of audible crowd noise during the quieter parts of the music. Still sounds wonderful though.
I do foresee Goat's Requiem popping by later on. Another one I am completely smitten by atm. Outstanding album. |

That Tangerine Dream set is awesome, David! I've also got the second volume which is also pretty great too, but I'll admit I've hardly given them the constant workouts they deserve. Hmmm, got vol 1 here on my Ipod at work right now, so off we go!

Most definitely a great album Michael. Yesterday was my first listen and I was so impressed that I tracked down the blue vinyl version which wasn't easy since copies are kind of scarce.

Sam, nice to see you've voted "yes" for Zacht Automaat.
Myself, I have revisited one of my favorite Progressive Electronic albums today. That's right, I'm talking about Musik Von Harmonia. This album is magnificent. Magnificent. The early-70's drum machines add such a distinctive flavor and there is just something about the recording, instrumentation, and colors of this album that make it one of my favorites to come out of Germany. Cartoon - Cartoon This is definitely a lost gem of avant-rock. The instrumentation is interesting. Although there is almost no bass guitar, the sound feels very rich and full. Loads of synthesizers and nice Hammond organ remind me of Brain Salad Surgery at times. But the music makes me thing of Art Zoyd or Univers Zero, but without the dark, ominous element. Really good stuff! |

Cerrone - III (Really cool (and Jarre-ish in places) Electronic Disco on side A. Side B is the usual stuff with strings and brass... meh) Popol Vuh - Einsjäger & Siebenjäger (I enjoyed this one more than the previous two for some reason) Harold Budd / Brian Eno - "Ambient 2: The Plateaux of Mirror" (Quite minimalistic but very soothing and different from "Abandoned Cities". I'll have to listen to Airports as well, Andrew ) Zacht Automaat - We're Glad You Agree Zacht Automaat - As It Is Spoken, It Shall Be Done The Flower Kings - Retropolis (I see what you mean Michael, it's like Close to the Edge meets Red. It makes sense since Retropolis is both wondrous and strange: after all everyone sells something (illegal?) and wizards morph into Elvis )

Renaissance - 'Scheherazade and Other Stories': Ya know, I actually think "The Vultures Fly High" is my favorite track off this release, followed by "Ocean Gypsy". Guess I'm really feelin' the shorter tracks.
Renaissance - 'Ashes are Burning': Man the opener "Can You Understand" on this album is so damn DOPE. In fact the only song I really have trouble with is "Let it Grow". There's only so much 'lovey-dovey' I can handle. Lisa Loeb - 'Firecracker': I loved this woman in the mid-90's, though I didn't pay much attention to her music. This release is quite a mess, but there's a couple of goodies within. Feels like a rarities, demo & B-sides album. |

Happy The Man - Crafty Hands - First time listen for this one. Plenty of excellent synth-driven (mostly) instrumental prog on side one; the compositions and performances are tasteful and organic. Side two presents some more interesting wind arrangements, all still to a very high standard of composition. What with this and Yezda Urfa's Boris, Mr. Smith may have been on to something all along!
