Just one today, with Camel - Mirage. One of my favourites and still a total masterpiece as far as I'm concerned. One thing that I noticed this time especially was how much energy Andy Ward has a drummer. Listen to the uptempo 6/8 keyboard solo in White Rider or the solo section in Earthrise and you'll hear exactly what I mean; the man was on fire!

Brave man with the Lapera, my friend! But, it is a rather lovely album, and I definitely don't regret buying the recent mini LP reissue of it. Nice to see it pop up on here! Murple's `Il Viaggio' is perfectly decent too! ![]() |

That's exactly what I've always liked about his drumming. The sudden, yet smooth changes in tempo. The way he plays that 6/8 rhythm you are talking about (as well as the rhythm underneath Andy Latimer's solo on "Freefall") is, in my opinion... quite Canterburian. I know I sound like a psycho-fan of the sub-genre ( ![]() |

Stereolab - 'Cobra and Phases Group Play Voltage in the Milky Night': One of those CDs so lengthy that it transformed into a double LP quite nicely. Arguably the band's most experimental album.
Galleon - 'From Land to Ocean': I need to be in a better frame of mind for this. Man the long songs were looooong, and the singer was getting on my nerves. I remember liking 'Beyond Dreams' more. Bathory - 'The Return': Kickin' it old school 1st wave black metal thrash deal. It's raw, loud and fast and came out in 1985, the year Calvin and Hobbes became a thing. What a time time to be alive I guess. |

I hear ya, I love good Ital-pop. La Bottega Dell' Arte's 1975 album is one of my faves. |

Yes - Close to The Edge - As with yesterday, only one album today, but what an album it is! Everyone here knows this one inside and out, forwards and back, so I just have one thing to say about this. Seasons. Of. Man. I think I had this one cranked loud enough that my whole building woke up. If anyone can find me a more breakneck, intense, and infectiously maniacal section to play air keyboards to, I will be forever indebted to you.

Last two days:
Haken – Affinity The Winstons – s/t Rush – Moving Pictures Ben Craven – Last Chance to Hear Dave Kerzner – New World Jethro Tull – Stormwatch (dull, but interesting reading the background to it) Jethro Tull – Warchild (Urgh, I discovered today that mostly everything I dislike about Tull is on this one! ![]() Jethro Tull – Thick as a Brick Pink Floyd – Wish You Were Here Pendragon – Men Who Climb Mountains Pendragon – Not of this World Riverside – Second Life Syndrome Riverside – Shrine of the New Generation Slaves (Not one of their best, but still wipes the floors with `Love, Fear…)’ Harald Grosskopf – Synthesist Alpha Wave Movement – Harmonic Currents Alpha Wave Movement – Earthen Betzler & Bruckner - Two Jack Hertz – Secret Coves Cosmic Ground – 3 – It is really good, Sam. Although the influences are still there, they’re more subdued and not as obvious as before, and the album seems like Dirk’s most natural and flowing effort yet. As you said, those pieces with the sequencers are really frantic and up-tempo. Tangerine Dream – Force Majeure – I love the first (title) track on this one, but I HATE that amazing drifting build that culminates in that awful plinky-plonky bit at about the 16:20 mark! It’s so cheesy to what came before it! |

Yeah, I have "Aqualung" with a book full of interesting interviews and details about the recording but when I play the record my interest fades ![]() ![]() It sounds better when you put it in perspective ![]() I meant to listen to Synthesist the other day, I'll have to put it on the pile. I'll have to give the new Cosmic Ground another listen, but it seems like top 20 material already ![]() Indeed! Thankfully that part is not long enough to ruin the whole track

I don't mind `Moving Pictures', it's pretty easy to put on in the background at work. I'll have to start giving it proper close listening eventually. I don't think `Love, Fear...' is a bad album by any means, and I certainly don't think Riverside have come close to a poor album yet, but it still feels lightweight and all surface thrills. I also think the more `commercial' songs on `Shrine...' are stronger than the ones on `Love...'. But like I said, all good. Actually, that wasn't really three Dull's in a row, I just lumped them together for the sake of that list...but to my shame, I have to admit I recently bought three remaster Tull Cd's - `Stormwatch', `Heavy Horses' and `A' for a few dollars each off a local Ebay vendor. I figured just get their `classic' period ones and give them all a fair listen...but it still hasn't helped change my opinion of them much. `Warchild' (which I picked up a few months back) absolutely did my head in on the drive into work today, I found most of it (and by It, I mean Anderson ![]() Yeah, `Force Majeure' is a ripper album from them (despite that crappy little moment! [LOL[), probably one of their closest to being `proggy'? I know a lot of people have issues with the final track on that, which I think is a little overlong and repetitive, but hardly bad at all! `Synthesist' is a cracker, such a perfect melodic electronic album. I'll be listening to the rest of `Cosmic Ground 3' ont he way home tonigth in about an hour. But I was very impressed with what I heard. I've liked the other ones, but this sounds really strong. ![]() |

'jeez, why even listen to Jethro Tull, when you're just going to bash it.
I hope you had fun with it, and I hope even more, that deep down inside, you love it, but are afraid to admit it
