Van Halen - Balance - This one has become my favourite album from the Sammy Hagar lineup. There's a great diversity of material here, from dark and aggressive to more lighthearted feel-good/party anthems, and Eddie's guitar sounds so massive. Especially on The Seventh Seal; this is the best Van Halen opening since Mean Street. The monks chanting sets it right up for Eddie to come and blow your eardrums out with his wall of sound. It's too bad that Van Halen kept trying to put out more studio albums after this; this really should have been their swan song.
Caravan - In The Land of Grey and Pink - This album is absolutely perfect rainy day relaxation music - gotta love that organ tone, and the vocals are so melancholic, but charming. I have a feeling that I'll be playing this one a lot in the near future, what with Vancouver winter soon approaching... ![]() Quella Vecchia Locanda - Il Tempo Della Gioia - Having this come up on shuffle was, fittingly, the most joyous time of my day. Although this is my less preferred of the two QVL albums, there's still such splendour and finesse to this one that it's hard not to enjoy. The whole album feels more like a classical piece than a prog album, but that isn't to say that there aren't some rockin' sections. The violin soloing in Un Giorno, Un Amico is furious! Such a fantastic RPI group, not a wasted minute in their whole output. Herbie Hancock - Crossings - This is my favourite of the Mwandishi albums, if not exclusively for Sleeping Giant, one of the greatest journeys in all of jazz. This piece has such phenomenal pacing; it never feels like it's going on too long, the grooves sink in for precisely as long as they need to, and covers so much different territory, from the jungle-like percussion opening to the more drawn-out "streetlight"-type stretches to some seriously funky sections. Love it! Edited by Magnum Vaeltaja - October 16 2016 at 22:56 |

Gary, have you noticed that Kozmik Artifactz currently has a sale on at the moment? I picked up a few good heavy/stoner/psych titles last night on an impluse/spur-of-the-moment frantic spending spree!

Thanks for the heads up. Believe me, I know a little about those impulse/spending sprees.

I checked out the sale this morning and ordered six vinyl LPs. I didn't even get passed the letter "C" in alphabetical band names.

^ There are some great deals on the list. I saw several albums that I have recently purchased and paid twice as much as the sale price.
The six albums I ordered averaged out to $11 each before shipping and I normally pay at least $24 for an album.
